Bus Tour - Hensinki

Helsinki, Uusimaa, Finland
Monday: Freezing but still no snow :( Today we took a bus tour of Helsinki which we found very helpful. We discovered places we want to explore further and it gave us a better idea of the lay out of the city. Most of Helsinki is on the Baltic Sea, and they have built walking paths along the edge, but at this time of year the sea is mostly ice so deep you can walk on it. We didn't try walking on it but some people from our tour did .    Had morning tea and lunch at a nice restaurant where the food was good and the people were friendly. We have made this our morning tea café. The saying on the glass mirror below "Life is uncertain Eat dessert first" could have been written by an Aussie.    But the best meals we have had have been from a supermarket. There is a department store near our apartment called Stockman where you can buy everything and anything.  There is a giant supermarket where you can buy, prepared meals, like salads, chicken or beef dishes, pasta, rice dishes, vegetarian all very fresh - you take them home and warm in the oven and serve with salad - fantastico. Tuesday: The coldest we have been...it is freezing, we walked for hours around the city and still did not warm up.    I think this is the closest we are going to get to a real reindeer. The church in the photos below is famous in Helsinki, it is built into solid rock and is different to any we have seen on our travels, from the outside it is very unspectacular, unless you knew it was there you would miss it.
