TOUR OF VILLA DURAZZO (A WET DAY)

Santa Margherita Ligure, Italian Riviera, Italy
Today it is rather wet so we thought it would be a good idea to do something inside out of the weather. We went to a villa nearby which was built on the site of an old roman fortress and stands on a hill looking out over the port of Santa Margherita. It's history is very interesting and it housed some antique furniture and paintings and there were fantastic frescos on the ceiling. It also housed a museum containing books and travel souvenirs of the Italian author Vittorio G Rossi, who we had never heard of until today but his story was very interesting and he also had an ancient copy of the Divine Comedy in his study. The gardens were also pretty but it was too wet, so we will have to return another day. The villa is near our apartment and entry to the gardens is open to the public so we can go back anytime.
