Nice is so nice......

Nice, Provence, France
We've spent 4 glorious days in the South of France. In those 4 days we've experienced the grandour and beauty of Monaco, the excitement and glamour of Cannes, a very relaxing afternoon in Antibes and now the magnificence of Nice, both old and new. And the backdrop to all of those beautiful towns and cities was the Mediterranean....the blue/turquoise Mediterranean!

The hotel we stayed at was on the Promenade des anglais that runs along the Mediterranean . As soon as we walked out of our hotel, the blue Mediterranean was right front of us. Our room has electrically controlled room darkening wood blinds. Loving it!!

Our first night in Nice we strolled the promenade des anglais. What a beautiful evening it was in Nice. The lights reflecting on the sea were just memesmirizing.

Today we went all the way up the Colline du Chataeu Tower which gave us an amazing view of the Mediterranean and pretty much all of Nice - old and new. (thank you Cecille from the train yesterday for this great suggestion). From the height we were at, Old Nice reminded me of Florence with it's terra cotta roofs, Duomo, and cathedral.

It was market day in Old Nice with the vendors selling anything old and new. On each side of this long line of vendors were rows and rows of sidewalk cafes. You could enjoy a pastry and coffee or have a meal with beer or wine . This time we chose the latter. What a wonderful way to end our day in Nice.

France has been amazing. I will miss listening to the beauty of the French language. It's intoxicatingly and charming.

The French Rivera should be on everyone's bucket list. Now on to Roma!!

.........Dave and I noticed a lot of tall pipe barricades were being installed on the Promenade des Anglais, which is the beachfront walkway in Nice along the Mediterranean. We also saw numerous armed military walking the promenade. Today we were told that all this was because of the terrorist attack last July 15th when a truck was driven down the promenade and killed many that were celebrating Bastille Day. The pipe/cement barricades will prevent anyone from being able to drive down on the promenade again. What a horrible event that was........

Seems like the nice folks have a sense of humor! Love the glass elevator....is that in lieu of the "glass ceiling!" Thanks for sharing your journey! XO

Kathy, Old Nice is behind the promonade and nice hotels there. We never went there back in '68.
