Island San De Cristobal, Galápagos, Ecuador
Arrived in the Galapagos Islands, first island San Cristobal after an early start. Time changes again and the clock goes back another hour. After clearing customs we collect our bags to be thrown on the back of a truck and transported to the dock. We are bussed to the dock only to see that we had to get into the zodiacs from the fisherman's dock because the jetty was washed away 2 weeks ago. We are transported to the National Geographic Endeavour and believe it or not the bags are also all transported to the ship this way.

After mandatory safety drill and unpacking we had lunch and our first outing on Wizard Hill . For all of the adventures landing is always in a zodiac as the ship must anchor out in the deep so that it only makes as little impact as possible. We are transported from the ship in zodiacs and have either a dry or wet landing. Wet landing means you will get wet up to about your knees so you need to wear reef shoes or something like that. Well, for me a wet landing is up to my waist….just joking.   Wildlife is amazing and see it everywhere. On this adventure we saw sea lions, sally light foot crabs (pretty red crabs) shore birds and marine iguanas (they are the black ones but sometimes have a little bit of red or turquoise on them). The sea lions just lie there and don’t even worry about you when you are walking through them. The water is a beautiful turquoise colour and the temperature was perfect so we were able to swim. Sand on the beach was so soft too.

Evening started out with a cocktail party to meet and greet the crew and a recap of the day with tomorrow’s schedule of planned adventure. After a busy day and such an early start we are exhausted and can’t wait to get to sleep.
