Moving again today to Arequipa

Arequipa, Peru
Weather fine, temperature 25-12 degrees

We have covered a lot of distance but when you think of how far we have to go it is only natural that there are a few flights involved . Our guide gets our luggage from our rooms to the bus and from the bus to the check in counter so we are a little spoilt.

This morning we did a city tour around Lima and a visit to the archaeology museum. This was to show us that there were other civilisations in Peru before the Incas.  We flew out for Arequipa at 2.40pm. Only a short flight of 1.15 minutes so nice and easy. There is an excavation site just out of Lima where they have been excavating since 1981 and they have unearthed a small amount of a temple. They say that there is another 20 years of excavation at the very least. We also visited a convent where there used to be 150 monks but now there are only 11 who reside there.

On arrival to Arequipa we have seen snow on the top of 2 volcanos as you can see from the picture from the car park.   Unfortunately, its not possible to have a window seat every time. On the way from the airport there was a local celebration and everyone was dressed up in traditional costumes they were so colourful, bit hard to catch a picture of this event.

This afternoon before dinner I am catching up on the blogs as we have been really busy and last night was a late night but the Marriott did not give us free wifi.

The hotel we are staying at is a historical site which was renovated but the front and the reception are really nice. Also, I mentioned in a previous blog that this is the first time that APT tours are visiting Arequipa so we hopefully will be given a good tour.
