Adventures out & about the Amazon

Amazon River, State of Amazonas, Brazil
Weather fine and hot, no rain at all. 106 metres above sea level.

Another skiff ride for a couple of hours and we saw much more wildlife again this morning . The sloths were more active, spider; tamarind; capuchin; owl faced monkeys, birds, green tree iguanas and a blue monarch butterfly so vibrant but too hard to catch on film whether it be a still shot or a video. After lunch some quiet time for everyone. Most usually catch a quick sleep for the afternoon adventure trips. We have moored next to a black water creek which meets the main river which is muddy brown. This black creek will be our adventure for this afternoon for piranha fishing and caiman spotting (small crocodiles).

This afternoon we had a talk on the Amazonian fruit and a tasting then back out in the skiffs from 4pm to 7pm. More sloths, and all types of monkeys, different birds and green tree iguanas. We even got to see the infamous pink Amazon dolphins, so unusual.

Also, while out in the skiffs we went piranha fishing with fishing poles and meat. I only managed to catch one but Geoff caught six and Darrell in our skiff caught the biggest one. We stayed out after dark and were looking for caiman (Amazon crocodiles). Believe me these guides must have super vision as they found a couple to show us. One got away but as for the next one, the guide caught it by hand and gave us a close up. I have photos to prove I was up close and personal the one of these little critters.

At dinner they presented Darrell with the cooked piranha as a trophy so we all tasted some. Tasted like fish!
