It had been more than a few days since my last bike ride, so I decided to take Bitch out for a spin around the countryside surrounding Stuttgart while Connie slept in a bit. I returned a few hours later to a frantic and tearful Connie. She had started sorting out clothes and gifts to pack things up and couldn't find her passport anywhere. The last time she saw it was in Paris at the hotel where she had taken it out of her purse so it wouldn't get stolen while we were sightseeing. We spent the next few hours tearing everything apart but it was nowhere to be found. Then we searched online for contact information for every stop we made from Paris to Stuttgart, but again nothing. We called the consulate in Stuttgart but being 1pm they were already closed. We called the main number in Berlin and they gave us directions on what to do in order to get emergency travel documents, but they advised that it could take up to 3 days to get one once we started the process. We were due to fly out on Thursday at 2pm and it wasn't looking good.
We spent the rest of the day and evening printing and filling out the documents recommended by the office in Berlin, thinking that if we came prepared it might help shorten the time. Then Connie went with Isa to the polizei station to do a lost or stolen passport report. The head guy there refused to do one because of some bureaucratic detail. They came back to the house and Hanno, who's profession is a lawyer and who also deals with immigration law, got on the phone with the guy and argued for half an hour that it was his job and duty to do this report. Finally the guy capitulated and they went back to get the report, which only took him 5 minutes to prepare. Crazy!
After they returned we had a late dinner and a bunch of beer while we decided what to do next. Needless to say, Connie wasn't a happy camper and didn't sleep much that night.
Uh oh...Connie has another turn of bad luck

I would have liked to listen in on Hanno "explaining" things to the polizei.

It was interesting and fun watching him in his lawyer mode in German...much different than the jovial conversations that we normally have.
