A drive to the Black Forest and a Disco party!

Baiersbronn, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
A full day of events planned for today! First, Connie and I took Hugo for a nice drive in Hanno and Isa's Porsche 911 to Klosterreichenbach, which is a small town in the Baiersbronn in the Black Forest about 80 minutes from Stuttgart. Hanno insisted we take the Porsche, which I resisted for almost 5 seconds before finally relenting. It was a tight squeeze even for little Hugo in the back seat and the trunk in the front was filled with Hugo's stuff. We were going to Isa's parents, Peter and Regina, to drop Hugo off for a few days visit with Oma and Opa. We took mostly back roads to get there, but we took it slow and easy with Hugo in the car, as per Isa's instructions. From the back he yelled "schneller Unkel Herb...schneller" as we got on the short bit of autobahn we had to take, but I resisted. He also yelled out "English!" every time Bitching Betty called out the directions. Even taking it easy we made good time and Hugo was a great little passenger the whole way there. It was fabulous weather and being Saturday there were lots of motorcycles on the road, which Hugo counted. There were also lots of people at a little lake in the middle of the Black Forrest that we passed on the way there, enjoying a day in the cool water on this hot summer day.

It had been 5 years since we last saw Peter and Regina and it was great to see them again after such a long time . We were also surprised to see that Gisela, who is my step-grandmother, and her daughter Christiane were also there. We stayed there for a few hours and got all caught up with what had been going on over the years, then we headed back for Stuttgart as we had a big party to go to. The ride back was notably faster than the ride there! We put the 911 into sport mode and headed through the Black Forrest roads with a good pace and there wasn't much traffic to slow us down. The car handled great through the tight narrow roads, almost as if it was made for them...hmmm. Before long we were back on the autobahn and a short while later we were in Stuttgart. We made a couple of stops and then we were back at Hanno & Isa's.

It was around 5pm and we were planning on going to a disco dance party later in the evening that was likely to go on well into the night, so we napped for a while and got up again at 8pm to get ready. The party had been put together by a guy that was left quite an inheritance from his father and he now spends his time enjoying life . He and many of his friends are in their 40's and 50's and long for the good ole disco days, so he came up with the idea of renting a Gasthaus outside of a small town near Stuttgart and holding a disco party, inviting 5 DJs that were the top DJs back in the 80's to come and play their music. They were scheduled all throughout the evening right up until 6am the next morning and played with old school vinyl. Connie hadn't been feeling well all day so she decided to drive us to the party and then come back to the house. The drive to get to the place was through a few small towns and then along a road that winded through the back woods to the Gasthaus that was in the middle of nowhere, secluded enough that they could crank the party up and not bother anyone in the near vicinity. There was a big room inside where the DJ's were cranking it and loads of people dancing, outside tents and tables were set up to handle the overflow. We got there at just after 10pm and there were already 400 people there, with another couple of hundred still expected . We met up with a number of people that Connie and I had met over the last several days so there were lots of people to hang with.

The surprise of the evening was the arrival of Big Tom. This guy in his early 60's showed up with a mane of white hair, long earrings and a number of chains around his neck. He had no shirt on and a pair of red track pants. I described the guy to Isa who informed me that he was a local icon that came out to all the big parties and hung out at discotheques throughout Stuttgart. Amazingly, and just as she had predicted, within an hour this guy had lost his pants and was walking around naked. He wasn't really flaunting anything and nobody seemed to have any problems with it as he was well known to everyone there and wasn't bothering anyone. It was quite surreal. Meanwhile, a little while later, Hanno had sparked up a cigarette just inside the entrance of the Gasthaus. One of the servers went ballistic on him screaming at him to put the cigarette out. Amazing! You could walk around completely naked at this party...just don't smoke inside. Ok, makes sense to me...I think...

The party wound on throughout the night and by 5am, with the sky starting to lighten up, the crowd started to thin out until our little group was all that remained. We called for a cab and made our way back home, getting there at 5:30am, just in time for breakfast. We had something to eat and then hit the sack.
