Tuesday in London

London, England, United Kingdom
Tuesday in London was another busy day for us. In the morning we went to the British Museum, which was fantastic. An amazing array of things brought back (or is that stolen) from places all around the world. Can you imagine bringing back a cave with artefacts and skeletons, or a tomb, as souvenirs of your holiday, because this is what they did. On a more serious note we saw the infamous Rosetta Stone and one of the incredible Easter Island statues. The building is impressive and although very busy it was easy to get around.

In the afternoon we went to St Paul's cathedral and walked up the 257 steps to the whispering gallery .  The cathedral is enormous, with incredible artwork on the dome and the most beautiful acoustics. We were lucky enough to listen to a small choir (of 7 people) singing and the music carried throughout the space as if they were using microphones - just simply beautiful.

After St Paul's, we had a change of pace as we headed to Leadenhall Market to see where Diagon Alley was created. The biggest surprise was getting off the tube at Bank and we were surrounded by beautiful old buildings - it was like stepping back in time. Very few tourists and everything seemed so quiet and still. Leadenhall Market is not so much a market but a small network of alleys, in someways reminiscent of our Block arcade in Melbourne, but more open air. We got the sense that Harry may have wondered past at any second!

Back towards home, we investigated going to see Spamalot - perhaps tonight.
