A country drive

London, England, United Kingdom
On Easter Monday we got back in the car and went for a country drive. Our first destination on this very cold morning was to head to Wotton-under-Edge and to visit a little shop by the name of Paper and Cotton. This is owned by friends of ours who will be coming to spend time there in the coming weeks. Sadly, like nearly everything else, the shop was closed. I was quite disappointed as Belinda, the owner, has the most beautiful cards that I had hoped to purchase to send to my mum. Just the previous night I had received a call to say that Mum was unwell and I wanted to send her a letter - ah well. Bitingly cold yet again, we found a little cafe and ducked in for a cuppa to warm up.

We continued our drive on through the other surrounding villages, all very beautiful and incredibly quiet on this bank holiday . Nothing what a bank holiday would be like back home. We stopped at Nailsworth and braving the cold got out and walked around the narrow streets. The church yard had wonderfully peculiarly manicured trees, and the local pub had a dog bar where dogs were most welcome.

Driving around for a few hours we seemed to go in and out of the Cotswolds so very easily, the landscape changing so quickly with building styles to match.

We headed back to our cottage with plans to go to the local for dinner. Whilst sitting and planning our next couple of days, Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford, I received another call from home with yet more sad news, my dear mum had passed away.

Within the next hour and half, we had changed our flights cleared the cottage and were on our way back to Heathrow. Our holiday that we had been so looking forward to, was cut short and we were now staring at a very long flight home.
