Galápagos Islands, Ecuador
Wed Dec 27
-8AM departure for Post Office Bay.   saw the post barrel and actually found one addressed to Haiku Maui, so we will deliver it.  Had fun throwing around the ball and splashing around.
-I went back for the 10:30 kayak session and kayaked solo through small croppings of lava islets.  Saw sharks in a small mangrove cluster and had a sea lion come up and check out my paddle.  was a fun activity even if none of my family joined me
-back for lunch and then suited up for the high current snorkel around Champion Islet.  Got in the water and was immediately pleased with the warmer temperature and the massive abundance of fish due to the deep water upwelling.  crazy cool schools of fish.  Finn and friend Matthew joined me and Laura and Ty rode in the zodiac.  Fun was had by all
-4PM nature walk on Punta Cormorant where we had a nice closeup view of a flamingo.  Walked over the isthmus to a very pretty beach.  A pleasant outing
-dinner, chill time and bed.  pleasant evening of cribbage in all forms
Thu Dec 28
-up at 6:40 for a 7:30 departure to Cerra Dragon where the land iguanas live.   A nice 2 hour stroll where we saw a number of land iguanas
-back on the ship at 9:30 for a quick turn around for Kevin for the 10AM "extreme snorkel."  A 15 minute zodiac ride out to a pair of islets that were clearly remanants of craters.  The current wasn't bad, but there was some chop from the wind.  the water was colder and nothing spectacular and no sharks as hoped, but still pretty and always fun to be in the ocean.
-lunch on the deck and then some down time before heading to the beach at 2PM.  Laura stayed onboard and napped as she felt like she had a mild cold.
-we also listened to the presentation by Aura, a third generation resident of Floriana which only has 150 people.  neat to hear her family's story and see pictures of her grandparents
-nothing that interesting on the short walk except two marine iguanas stuck in the mud waiting for the tide to go in or out.  remains of the US Army barge and hence how the beach got its name
-the boys had fun swimming on the warm, sandy beach.  too bad we were not allowed to play with the balls.  we killed horse flies.  back to the ship to chill and dinner and bed
