Three Capes Hike - day 2

Sunday, March 17, 2019
Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia
3/17
Up in the middle of the night and a bushy tailed possum was out. I guess they pee in boots left outside. Glad mine were inside
I was up first and wandered about and found a mat for stretching. The huts are well equipped.
Had oatmeal at the chilly picnic table in the deck
Got the crew packed up and off on the trail.  We were quickly too slow for the kids and they were off and not to b seen until the hut at the end
Hike was up and down two hills through forest and brushy plains. The dense scrub would have been ridiculously hard to hike through without a trail
The second hut was located near the cliffs w a stunning overlook.  The helicopter pad near the bathroom had amazing views.
We got into the hut around mid afternoon. The kids had been there over an hour. We were treated to a warm shower and then a humorous briefing from the ranger.
He was a fisherman 12 years ago and during the last decade has seen the giant kelp forests disappear due to warmer water and the arrival of the sea urchins. The species of fish in the water has changed dramatically as well.  Amazing in a singe decade
We had noodles with freeze dried flavors for dinner.  Hot cocoa as a treat for desert.
Some games and then to bed.
