Three Capes Hike - day 4

Tuesday, March 19, 2019
Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia
3/19
Up at 7 for the needed departure at 9 to make the 4pm bus
Crew eats oatmeal and is glad that it is the last day
We r the last group on the trail which is actually nice for the solitude. The boys quickly decide to ditch us and hike ahead
The first part of the hike is a steep climb through damp forest. The temperature is pleasant and we set a sustainable pace
We are happy when we reach the summit in a little over an hour and take a picture of the mossy surrounding
As we hike along the ridge laura notes that the forest is getting drier and the foliage is changing. We get a few peaks out at the coast
After a few more hours of walking we get to the fork where we drop out big packs and head up and down a few peaks to get to our final cape
As we start down the first steep decline we spot the boys. Ty turns and hikes with us out to the cape again. Finn heads back to the backpacks after a surly exchange about sunscreen
The hike is tiring with legs that have been going for four days but we make it out to the cape. There's more traffic on the trail as it is a day hike as well
Back to our packs and we settle in for the final hour plus that is downhill. Not a lot of talking. Just get it done
We are happy when we reach the bay and the parking lot around 3:15 in time for our bus.
There's a store there but the lady at the trail head told us there was no need to bring money on the hike so we finish off our final snack bars and cookies and water and bagels. In general we provisioned very well for the trip
A bumpy and slightly crazy bus ride back to our car.  We reclaim or valuables from the locker and get info about visiting port Arthur tomorrow
We drive back to our cottage rental that is a bit subpar but with friendly hosts and camels
They give us a dinner recommendation but the hotel restaurant is mobbed with a school group.
We decide to wait and play cards as the menu looks yummy to hikers tired of oatmeal and pasta
We order our food and the helpings are sizable. Ty switches from fish and chips to chicken schnitzel so we end up with heaps of food
We head home with full bellies and showered bodies for a good night of sleep
