Hobart and then home

Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
3/21
The crew got up at a leisurely pace which was fine.
I was up early thinking about my phone and made a FaceTime call to Chris. He called my phone and someone answered and it is in th mall security office. Phew. I had backed it up before leaving but it would have been a bummer to lose the trip photos and a pain to buy a new one etc.   when laura got up we headed over to the mall and it was nice to get it back
The boys were binging of course so we decided to rent bikes from our hotel and pedal the 10k to Hobart and tour.  Finn of course gave us the usual attitude and was very bummed that part of the rental Included helmets
It was misting and a little cool but still a pleasant enough ride.  The trail was a converted rail track so not the views of the nicest parts of town but there was a riverside section
We were happy to arrive and headed towards touristy Salamanca market for lunch. After a little browsing we found a yummy spot.  I had an excellent corn cake salad and split a kangaroo burger with laura. The chef had overpowered the meat w spices and a tasty relish so we could not really get a feel for the taste.   It was very lean though
Well fueled we looked around a wood shop where laura found a table she loved. Then up Kelly steps to Battery Point and quaint homes
On the way back to the bikes we stopped at an expensive chocolate store whose product turned out to be a little disappointing. Oh well. The chocolate sample that they gave ty was nice.
We stopped at the Tasmanian museum which was better than expected. I learned that the Tasmanian tiger was a misnamed marsupial. Also learned about this super big fresh water lobster. Was a good visit
We got back to our bikes and laura had a flat tire that was not totally unexpected. She borrowed a mobile from someone walking by and got a ride home
The boys and I pedaled home and it was a quick and more pleasant ride. The mist had stopped and we were with the wind and it felt more downhill. We got back five minutes after laura
The group took some downtime and I decided to ride a few kilometers to the local golf club. It was pleasant and made me even more ready to be home
We decided to return to the same street but a different Indian restaurant. The food was good but maybe a touch below the previous night. But the ambiance made up for it
Home to chill but the boys got rambunctious. We had told them no more screen time and they lost the privilege to play cards. So we watched some Aussie footie while finn defiantly argued to listen to music.
Finally to bed and glad to be going home tomorrow
3/22
The crew got up and wanted to chill and binge. I went for an hour walk along the river
We packed bags and loaded the car for the final time.  We headed to the MONA around 10
The MONA had questionable art and everyone was done with it by about noon.
The weather was still overcast and mount Wellington was likely socked in so we headed to the historic town of Richmond instead.
We lunched at the bakery and I finally won with a yummy cauliflower and cheese pie.
We did a quick tour of the town and finished at the oldest traffic bridge in Australia built in 1823. It was scenic
We left for the airport at 2 and were parked by 2:20. Super easy car return and bag check and we were at our gate by 2:45 although ty had his nail scissors confiscated at security
Wifi in the airport allowed me to check in with the parents and then we were onboard jetstar headed for Sydney
Painless flight from Sydney to Honolulu. Slept most of the way. Nice
