Last day of pedaling!

Brugge, West Flanders, Belgium
Fri Aug 1
-it's August and we are headed to Belgium today . Should be fun. Except for the 5 hours of pedaling ahead. Ok. It is the last day. We can make it.
-left hotel and took pics. Saw jousting in square. Couldn't find famous row of houses and got caught at drawbridge and just missed ferry. Was ok cuz got to hang with Oz couple while we waited. After ferry started pedaling and skipped the tourist town and hugged the coast along the dune tops when possible. We were pleased with our route that shaved off extra kms.
-we said no to food in the supposedly quaint inland town and headed out to the touristy coastal town where there were many options. We settled on Italian and split a pizza and a salad. It was pretty good but nothing monumental.
-we pedaled on and left the coast for cute canal scenery. Similar to what we saw when we left Amsterdam. We crossed into Belgium, sadly without a sign. We were going to just finish out the ride when 6kms from Brugge, a little cafe in Damme called to us. We had a nice snack and refueled. It was a good stop rather than just grinding through
-with some GPS help we found the hotel and pulled up just as Texas and Oz were rolling in. We felt like we were on Amazing Race and Phil was about to say "you are team number three."
-we got cleaned up and met up with Texas, Oz and Swiss for a drink in the hotel and then caught a cab into the town center. The Swiss couple decided to bike. Hard core.
-we found an Italian place that could handle our group and the food was good. A tad heavy but after 6 days of biking, what's a few extra carbs?!?
-we all headed out to the square to hear the concert going on. L and I quickly flamed out and said our goodnights and headed for home.
-the 45 min walk home was a touch too long but we saw all of Brugge's squares lit up at night. It was quite nice.
-we got home and collapsed near midnight. We were very glad that we would not be getting on a bike tomorrow.
-final day's stats: rolling time 3:17; elapsed time 6:30; distance 51 km
