Home to the hurricane

Brussels, Belgium
Wed Aug 6
-got up and had a quick swim . Wish I had of seen the light switch on the way in instead of the way out. All good then down to bfast with the flies.
-got rolling and headed for peat hike. Stopped for lunch and then to info center. Got some rather bad info and map from info lady. Turns out if you don't speak one of the three languages, Dutch, German or French, then you are at a disadvantage. Fair enough as English would be the fourth language.
-we did a nearly 2 hour hike through uninspiring bog and forest. It was about what I expected would happen. But it was good to stretch our legs.
-then back into the car and off to Brussels. We hit some rain and construction but powered through. We were very pleased with the Marriott
-set out for a quick outing into Brussels to see some sights. GPS had it's final laugh and sent us through the airport. Oh well. A test drive for tomorrow. Arrived somewhere in Brussels and easily found parking given the late hour. Definitely the time to visit Brussels, late at night on a weekday. Asked a local for coordinates and we were off
-Made it to the Grand Place and snapped a pic. Toured the many side streets and ended up at a Chinese restaurant. Noodles were good and we were off to see the Palace. After a few course corrections by the locals we made it there and snapped a pic.
-home to the hotel for Internet and some serious emailing about travel plans given the hurricane in Hawaii. Off to bed and we will see what tomorrow brings.

Thu Aug 7
-the long day of travel begins. Where will we end up?!?
-grabbed a workout and then Internet and checkout and we were off to the airport. Total confusion there courtesy of the Delta agent who told us our flight to Amsterdam had been cancelled. After many lines and iterations between the various airline desks we learned that the flight was just fine. We headed off to the gate and had enough time to grab bfast in the lounge. It turned out fine, but was unneeded chaos. But we have begun our journey home!
-we made to Seattle, but our flight to Maui was cancelled due to the hurricane . I had planned for such a contingency and we re-routed to San Jose and met up with the boys and Laura's parents

Fri Aug 8
-a night of sleep in CA and then a long delay at SJC, but at last the pilots decided it was a go and we got home to Maui at about 6PM. We were glad to be with our boys and glad to be home
-a fine adventure indeed, but as always we are glad to be home in paradise!
