Lake Cargelligo, New South Wales, Australia
After our visit with our granddaughter in Wodonga we headed to NSW and Leeton to see the rest of the family before heading further north to the warmer weather.
We spent a night at Narandra beside the boat ramp along with 4 other various caravans and campers . We went for a late afternoon walk along the river bank but could not go as far as we would like. We are missing our long walks and swims. In the morning we walked a little more this time around the sports oval but it is too cold for a swim in the river, and a little unsafe as you could see the fast flowing current. We watched a baby duck get caught in the current and get taken out of sight down stream, hopefully it managed to gradually make it to the shoreline somewhere as it was not old enough to fly.
We packed up after breakfast and headed the short trip into Leeton to see the last of our grand kids. After a couple of days we headed towards Lake Cargelligo and the true beginning of our adventure.
With all the photo stops and lunch break we only made it to John Oxley rest area not far from Rankins Springs.
Our lunch break near Yenda proved interesting. While we were having lunch we heard a lot of bird screeching so we went to look. We found a group of Apostle birds raiding the nests of some Mallee Ringneck parrots who were trying to save what was in the nests. We could not see if there was any eggs or nestlings in these nests but the Apostle birds kept diving their heads in and the poor ringnecks were making a lot of noise.
The John Oxley rest area is just off the busy mid western hwy with lots of trucks, but we did have Yellow throated miner birds in the trees beside us. The clouds got darker andeit rained in the night but we slept most of the night and headed out in the morning to Lake Cargelligo.
It was raining when we arrived so only a little walk and a few photos of swamp harriers and red rumped parrots. Hopefully the next couple of days the weather improves .
