Longreach, Queensland, Australia
Lonreach home of Stockman's Hall of Fame, Out back Heritage Museum, Kinnon & Co stage couch ride and outback theatre tour, Thomas Belle Paddle-wheeler, and Qantas was started here.
Longreach was named because of its position near the long reach of the river .
We stayed for first few days at the tourist park ,packed in like sardines so we moved out to the free camp on the river , much more pleasant even without power.
Plenty of nature and wildlife parks, one is Lilly Lagoon named because it is home to a water Lily but not just any old lily but one that is only found here called Nymphea lily. The other walk we did was Iningai Nature Park named after the traditional owners who lived along the Thomson river.
This area turns into flood plains every couple of years
We found the swimming pool and it was open , a 25mt. with roof and removable sides. The air was cold but because of hot artesian water it was fine, they also have 50m. outside pool which they do not open in winter .
Larry went to the Qantas museum and spent the afternoon looking at old planes inside and out and got to go into cockpit of a 747 and he walked out onto the wing. Photo taken from wing

The stagecoach ride is through town and then out for a gallop on dirt road. The coach is based on a Cobb &co coach with modifications for todays health and safety regulations . The photos I took were no good so photo enclosed is a photo of a photo, I cheated
The Stockman's hall of Fame draws a lot of people here and a lot of " want-to -be cowboys"

We went to Captain starlight Lookout. A popular name for a bushranger of about 120 years ago. Real name Harry Readford who is part of outback folklore of 1870.
The lookout was where he posted men to keep watch while he and his men gathered all their stollen cattle together before the drove them into South Australia and Adelaide for sale.
He was caught because the mob of cattle included a white bull which he sold at Hill Hill station to get food and supplies. The men sold the rest of cattle in Adelaide and then dispersed with Harry Readford returning to Queensland where he was arrested. Strangely he was found not guilty.
The drive was along a dirt road or 45km and all stock roaming loose with no fences so we had to stop for horses ,cattle kangaroos, emus and we saw our first Bustard bird.

The drive was along a dirt road for 45km each way so Larry drove out and I drove back for some off road practise
