Heading Home

Amarillo, Texas, United States
Wednesday, we began four back to back single night stays to get some miles behind us.
After we left St. James, we drove to the Red Barn outside Carthage, MO.  We had stayed there for a night on our way up.  It is a basic, but clean park that really appreciates the military as they give a 30% discount to active duty and veterans.  For some reason, our refrigerator got an error code and it started warming up.  We moved most of the freezer stuff to the basement refrigerator/freezer, but after turning it off a couple of times and letting it set overnight, the error code went away, and temps went down and it started working normally.
On Thursday, we drove to Mingo RV Park in Tulsa, OK.  This is another basic campground that has a few non-permanent/long-term pull-thru sites that are a bit narrow, but very long.  The utilities are good - the water pressure was so high that, even with a regulator, our water heater pop-off valve leaked a little.  The biggest problem we had was that the site was not level so our diver's side front wheel was about 3 inches off the ground.   At least it was only for the night.
Friday we stayed at the Mustang Run RV park in Yukon, OK.  This is a relatively new park that has the widest streets in any park we have stayed.  The streets and sites are cement.  The sites are long and pretty level with a little grass between sites.  They even have three storm shelters on the property in case of really bad weather.
Today, we drove to the Amarillo Ranch RV Park in Amarillo, TX.  This is a large park, with a couple of areas set aside for short term/over-night customers.  We are parked in a pea gravel covered area with a couple of trees around.  The pull-thru sites are fairly level.  The sites are only defined by the utility hookups on one side and a table on the other.  Again, the park is ok for a short stay.
After we got set up, Shirley called her cousin Debbie who lives in the area, and they agreed that she and Steve would meet us at the coach and we would go to The Big Texan for dinner.  After getting caught up on how the families were doing, we drove to the restaurant.   We had been there many years ago.  The place had really grown, but the heart of the restaurant had not changed other than there was a lot more seating.  Before, there were lots of round and square tables, with plenty of room to get around.  Now, the room is full of long tables pushed together and arranged in rows to maximize seating.  Other things that have not changed are  that the steaks are still delicious and the portions are huge!  Shirley ordered their 8oz center cut sirloin, and I opted for their 8oz filet.  Good eats!
After stuffing ourselves, we drove back to the coach and said our good-byes to Debbie and Steve.  It was really great to get to visit with them.  They are planning on retiring next year.  Hope they get a RV and get on the road to see this great country of ours.
After a down day, we will drive to Santa Rosa, NM on Monday, and then to Las Cruces to visit with Maurice and Maurine on Tuesday before we arrive home on Wednesday.
