Venice, Veneto, Italy
Arrived in Venice and took the bus to the outskirts. Nice and easy. Dropped us by the car hire offices there being no cars in Venice. We were shocked into paying large amounts for excess insurance as the Italian drivers are 'mad' apparently and theft is common in Naples. Seemed a load of scare tactics to us after a few nervous days. Italian drivers have a different set of rules but once we knew them it seemed a perfectly fine system to me. If someone comes up fast behind and tailgates, get out of the way - it's not personal and you have the right of way unless something is there first and then you give way. Perfect. Road signs, crossings and signals are more advisory than mandatory!

Venice was an eye opener . Beautiful to be in, entirely unique, quiet without traffic noise. Expensive. Not fantastic on the food front. Gentle walks, fun public transport system. We loved it.
