Uffizi and skyline

Florence, Tuscany, Italy
We'd been to Florence before and enjoyed it so we'd done the tour and the town square but we missed out (don't know how) a top 100 sight the Uffizi Gallery. It's on the way to Rome sort of so that's the next stop.

Getting used to driving but disappointed in the lack of nice food or restaurants . Surprised too. Or maybe just heathen. We were getting pretty used to Autogrills and actually finding them more useful then expected - quite tasty too. Although they don't make tea like back home do they ...

Tina picked a hotel outside the city as parking and driving was said to be horrendous and expensive. We found it pretty easily in a suburb, nice looking. Quiet. Not particularly outstanding. Hotel was the best so far though and probably the cheapest. Top quality helpful staff, lovely food, immaculately presented, new rooms and very well done.

Florence was as we remembered, a lovely city but I reckon Verona was nicer. Great architecture and photo ops. Uffizi was odd, queue on one side to get a time, then the other side to get in - not clear were the front door was! Anyway, it was full of priceless statues, apparently. But unfortunately, seen was broken statue and face of roman emperor seen them all. There were loads of them. So we headed for the Carravagios and romantic/renaissance sections but they are all very similar, dark and brooding - sadly we were not too impressed. We either missed the point or are heathens. Heathens probably. There were some nicely preserved things from 500 years ago but that was their main claim to fame. Sorry...

Nice square though and some interesting things to see. Got lost on the way back, got off the bus too early so we walked heading in what we hoped was the right direction. Made it back eventually, that's teach us to pay more attention. Luckily the rain held off.

Off to Roma tomorrow.
