So definitely got the hang of driving. No prangs, understand when to give way and get out of the way. Get near to Naples and it starts to go a bit pear shaped. We head off following the GPS (and map) down what seem to be back alleys, port towns, docks and dodgy areas generally. People everywhere in the roads, tiny lanes, scooters going mad and then ended up in a hotel that looked like a cement factory.

Actually it was a very nice hotel with an absolutely stunning view of Vesuvius over the bay of naples . On one side. On the other side was condom alley and no-where to go. It was basically a conference location in the middle of no-where. But lovely. Good food, nice staff. Strange art in the bedroom. 15 channels of junk on the tv, getting pretty sick of BBC World Service and CNBC. Anyway we went out nearly all day anyway. Local towns were a bit unsavoury but we wanted to see Vesuvius, Pompeii & Amalfi not Castellamare di Stabia. We were going to do a Naples tour but got put off by the poor press in the tour guides.

Turns out the area behind the hotel is a well known haunt for the local prostitutes. Tina was highly amused by the large number of disposed condoms and tissues, stark contrast to the lovely views. Same as Vesuvius - lovely one side, rubbish everywhere the other.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and drove around the coastline and to the sites. Very relaxing overall
