Up the Columbia River Gorge

Columbia River, Oregon, United States
After visiting with our good friend, Karen Tangle, (who helped us get financing for our coach 4 years ago) in Eugene and our dear friends Vince and Bobbi and their two children outside of Portland, we headed up the Columbia River Gorge towards our next destination, Kennewick, Washington. We had only been down the gorge (going west) and then we only started half way up so this was a brand new experience for us. Going east AND all the way up into Washington. Needless to say, it was spectacular.

First stop was Multnomah Falls. At 620 feet. Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in the state of Oregon. Multnomah Falls is listed as the 137th tallest waterfall in the United States. In comparison, Yosemite Falls is the 6th tallest in the United States at 2,425 feet. Both are beautiful.

There are 14 dams on the Columbia River. We like dams....they're spellbinding. We saw four as we went up river, but there are many, many more in the watershed, which is a very expansive area.

The views became almost biblical as we went further up the gorge. It seemed like we were entering the Bible lands.

It gets very windy...as a matter of fact, one of the best places to windsurf is on this river, so there are many wind turbines on the hills.

We went up to where the river turns north and we crossed the river and entered Washington to stay for a week That'll be coming up next entry.
