Small Town with Lots to do

Havre, Montana, United States
We left Glacier and took highway 2 across the top of Montana, a road called the Hi-Line. This is really Big Sky country. Unfortunately, there were forest fires north in Canada and the horizon was obscured by hazy smoke for hundreds of miles.

Havre had one of the most interesting, or rather, unusual RV places to stay. We were right next to a major switch yard for BNSF railroads. It turned out to be not as noisy as we thought and pretty darn cool to see the trains coming and going. We sat on a hill overlooking the train yard for an hour. Never knew it could be so fascinating. BNSF has 11 system locomotive shops; one of these is at Havre, Mont., which helps keep the engines that power trains moving safely and efficiently.

We really don't approve of graffiti on the trains but this works was so colorful....

Here's a list of what we did in our 3 and 1/2 days in the small town:

Ride in the country south.

Ride in the country north.

Chased an Amtrak train.

Walleye Tavern ribs and beer

BNSF railroad yard

4th of July fireworks, then right before it was over, a Lightning and hail storm hit. We raced home and pulled in our slides as quick as possible. Then, all the power went out in the town. In the morning, it had still not come back on. We ran our generator all night for our A/C.

Ran some miles at local track while Kim walked around it.

Awful Mexican food restaurant.

Decent burger

 Nattie blood work done

 Walmart shopping

 Flat tire

 Old homes section of town

 Tour of senior housing apartment

 Washed car

 Helped neighbors wash coach

Met nice family biking across country

...and more photos at the bottom.

A real nice stay in a small town (well...around 10,000 souls, not that small.)

Next stop - Fort Peck Lake and Dam

See ya!
