Theodore Roosevelt National Park North Dakota

Dickinson, North Dakota, United States
Another state we've not been to before. Stopped about 70 miles inside the state in the city of Dickinson...big oil and gas town. After setting up, we took a drive out into the country to see North Dakota close up. Views as far as you can see. Gorgeous.

Next day, we drove back west about 35 miles to tour the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, South Unit (we did not go to the North Unit). Visitor's Center had a good movie showing how it came about and lots of exhibits about "Teddy" himself. The park is a about a 31-mile car tour where you drive around, take hikes, stop at pull outs...that sort of thing. It was not crowded at all so it made it very peaceful to take in the vistas. We never took any of the hikes as it was getting warm but that looked like a great way to experience the park even more.

HUGE prairie dog fields...they were all over.

After seeing Bryce, Zion, Arches, Grand Canyon, this place was tame and colorless but, once we got over that and started to see it for it's own park, it became serene, yet wild. I'm glad we got to that point...made the trip more worthwhile. You can decide for yourself.

Some very strange geologic rocks stuck in the side of the hill....not sure what happened here.

...and some wildlife and flowers....of course...

One last photo....of Nattie napping with me while I watch golf. I guess watching golf puts lots of people to sleep!

Nice place to visit. We enjoyed it. Hope you do too.
