Everyone Come to the County Fair !

Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States
One of our favorite things to do is to visit local County Fairs. We've been watching for months now and, it's not been the season. However, when we got to Michigan, we found two fairs...one in Kalamazoo County and one near Frankenmuth, where we were staying.
Some people go for the food...some for the rides. We go for the children's exhibits, the crop exhibits and the animals.....as you can see....

This one fair has a HUGE city all built with Legos and it was based on historical Kalamazoo buildings no longer in existence. Imagine the time it took to put this together!!??

We usually head straight for the children's exhibits. These are kids from age 5 up to 18 that raise animals, write about it, keep journals on medical stats, weight, etc. and then enter them into the fair. Such responsibility is fantastic. Just take a peek at a few of these. Notice now many years they've been at it.

It's also enjoyable to walk through the animals. Kim loves this part especially as you can see....

Look at the younger children waiting to show off their cows in the showing.

...and some very proud rabbit owners...

We also watched a horse jumping competition. These young ladies had to run next to their horses, in 80 degree weather, as they jumped the six hurdles.
Six men had assembled a very large railroad area, complete with six tracks of railroads and some pretty clever accessory areas.

All in all, two very pleasant visits to the country fairs. If one of these comes near you, be sure to take it in and marvel and the effort that these young folks take in bringing their crafts/animals for you to enjoy.

Hi! Great pictures. Just goes to show that you can have a great time and not spend a lot of money!
Nice railroad. The children sure did fine work on their animals and exhibits. Are either of you teachers?
Thanks for blogs. Safe travels?
