La Candelaria, Bogotá, Colombia
I arrived in Bogotá on Friday at 10pm after a 10 hour flight from Madrid where I had been visiting Katie.
It wasn’t hard to get up for a 10am walking tour on Saturday, given the time difference is 6 hours behind Spain. The tour gave a good overview of the historic centre of the city, introduced us to some Colombian fruits and also coffee.
Next on the itinerary was Monserrate, a big hill overlooking Bogotá. I got the funicular up, and was glad the wires held out as it would have been a pretty big crushing drop. The view over the city was amazing and gave a perspective of how big it is. It has a population of more than 8 million. I decided to walk back down and it made me feel grateful I hadn’t taken on the task of walking up. It was a long way and there were some very sweaty people.
I went straight to the gold museum, another main attraction of Bogotá. It was pretty cool, with thousands of gold artefacts found all over South America. Next museum was the Botero art museum, which is home to over 300 of his paintings. I’ve seen some before, but never realised that Botero, the artist, was from Colombia.
I was back in time for the sunset at the hostel, which has a great balcony, and was also a great place to eat breakfast. Before succumbing to jet lag I met a German girl and Mexican guy who were both very friendly.

Looks like an interesting city. You managed to cram in a variety of trips in your short stay there. The gold and Botera museums look interesting (and everything else)! Enjoy the rest of your traveling week Xx
