Under the sea

Taganga, Magdalena, Colombia
I'm catching up on the last few weeks! There's a lot to tell but I thought I'd do it in a few different blogs to make it easier reading.
At the end of March I took advantage of living very close to a popular dive site in Colombia which is known for its good conditions and also cheap diving schools. I decided to do my Open Water PADI diver course which was 3 days long.
Taganga, a small fishing town, is where I was based. I stayed in a fun hostel with a nice pool which also happened to be where we spent our first day learning the basics of how to dive. The pool was about 1.5 deep so it felt very strange being submerged but still so shallow. Also the only wildlife we saw were some dead bugs however it didn't matter too much as we were concentrating hard on remembering to breath.
During the course we also had to complete some theory, a number of videos and knowledge reviews. Luckily, I passed all of them, so could move on to the main activity. We had two mornings of diving with 2 dives on each morning. The first dive was pretty difficult as my weight belt came off and I couldn't understand why I was finding it difficult to stay submerged. One of the other guys on my course was also having difficulty with buoyancy, so the instructor had his work cut out.
The next 3 dives were much smoother and it was so cool to be surrounded by the underwater life. We saw some scary eels, crazy colourful fish including a couple of puffer fish, and some very pretty coral. I really wanted to see a turtle but it wasn't to be, I'll have to wait until next time...

Perhaps if we get our dive kit back out we can have a dive together one day? Underwater life looks very colourful and makes me want to dive again xxx

Cool pictures of the Moray eels and puffer fish. Happy you passed the Open water, as mum says maybe we'll dive together when you get back home! X
