Football and flowers

Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez Department, Guatemala
So this blog is a bit delayed but I had it planned before having to go home.
Before I left, there was a lot going on in the school. A school play, water conservation workshops, a marathon runner who had raised money for EFTC visited and this was all accompanied by the beginning of the rainy season which means almost every afternoon there will be a downpour for around an hour. It always seems to be exactly when work finishes!
Lulu (English teacher I with), Kellen, Anna and I decided very spontaneously to go to the semi-final match in which Antigua was playing. Fun experience, topped off by the fact Antigua won 2-1. The passion for football in Latin America gets me every time - with the flares, the pure elation at a goal and the fact the whole city is waiting on the result.
Anna and I visited Caboa Farm which is a beautiful place about 20 minute walk from Antigua. Amazing organic farm. Before Anna left to go back to the UK, a few of us went for a weekend at Lake Atitlan. It's such an amazing place and the weather was perfect to enjoy swimming and relaxing. Not so relaxing was the journey back and getting held up in a fiery political rally.
I also decided to move to a different place two weeks before I left because I was finding it difficult not having access to a kitchen in my host family. So I moved to a shared house with some Guatemalans and have an amazing view of the volcano from my room!

Lots of happy memories were no doubt re-kindled when you were writing this blog. Nice to see the wildlife pictures, especially the hummingbird in front of the volcano. Beautiful breakfast view, but not so much fun returning through a political rally. The children always look happy in the activities you photograph which is good to see. The school in the rainy season doesn't look so much fun though! Enjoy your view of the volcano from your room - won't get that next year (although you will still have a nice view). xxx
