Day 2 Dubai UAE

Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
We went down to breakfast at 9.30. It was a help yourself and as we had already eaten on the plane, we decided to make this lunch. We had eggs and tomatoes, fried potatoes and l tried some turkey bacon. I won't need to try that again. Juice, nice English tea, pancakes and toast completed the meal. As it was now 10.00, and the shuttle bus to Diera City Centre did not leave for another hour, we decided to take a taxi. It cost 20 Dirhams (about $7) when it should have been about 12-15, but I wasn't going to argue. We exchanged our docket for our Big Bus ticket and set off on the Blue Route. We didn't get off at the Jumeirah Mosque or Mercator or the Beach Park or the actual beach. Our first hop off was at Souk Madinat Jumeirah, mainly for a toilet stop. We had a good view of Burj Al Arab from here. But we were surprised to find a modern souk (market place) and it was very interesting. Half hour between buses can be a problem in 40 degree heat, but we didn't have to wait long. I sat upstairs in the heat to take photos & Edie stayed in the air conditioning downstairs. She was developing a cold and wasn't feeling good. We went down The Palm but of course couldn't recognize it as such. We saw The Atlantis Hotel but didn't get off. We did get off at Mall of the Emirates for some window shopping and to cool down. We looked at the ski slope but didn't go in. We missed the next bus as we were waiting at the wrong place. So another half hour in the air conditioning. Back on the bus and the smog was terrible. I could hardly see the buildings in the distance. We hopped off at the Dubai Mall and saw the Aquarium and the Dubai Fountain but decided not to go up the Burj Khalifa because of the smog. This turned out to be a mistake as a fellow passenger later told us the view was excellent. It was now after 4.00 and we were beginning to feel tired so we got off at the last stop - WAFI, as we could see this tomorrow on the Red Route. The taxi back to the hotel (quite a long way) only cost 30 dirhams ($10) and we went straight upstairs where Edie collapsed into bed and took some tablets. I ordered a Movenpick Deluxe Burger with chips and onion rings which we shared.($22) and some mango Movenpick ice cream for Edie which was not creamy but rather like gelato ($15). By 8.30 we were both asleep.
