Day 23 At sea on the way to Istanbul

Istanbul, Istanbul, Turkey
Our first sea day, so we sleep in till 8.00, when I had to get up as we are having breakfast in our cabin this morning. I take mine out onto the balcony where I can watch the calm sea and the sky still blushed from sunrise. There are a few islands in view but no sign of towns. I decide to try out the laundromat, so wander down there and find one couple doing their ironing. Great. Then I learn that you need American quarters to operate the washing machines, driers & to buy soap powder. I remember I have some US dollars in the cabin, so I rush back there, collect $10 and go back to the laundry - 5 minutes flat. The place is packed, all 4 washers going full blast. I change my $10 into 40 quarters, buy some soap powder, and sit down. After 10 minutes I give up and decide to come back later. Back in the cabin I put on my bathers and Edie and I head upstairs to the pool. I lay in the sun for a while and Edie plays cards on the iPad. It's a very pleasant 24 degrees with no wind and in no time I feel I should have a swim. The pool is 5 feet at one end and 7 feet at the other. No edging yourself into the water. So I walk down the stairs in one fluid movement, just in case any of the 100 people around me are watching, and I'm in. It's wonderful, so I float around for about 5 minutes and then return to the lounge. We decide to have an early lunch and snag a table by the window. I have lots of salad and Edie has a small helping of pasts salad then a big helping of some sort of pastry and custard. We then part ways, me back to the laundry ( I have better luck this time ), and Edie to get her hair cut. At 3.00 we went up to the pool deck to watch Top Gun on the big screen. Even though it was a bright afternoon, we could still see the screen perfectly. The rest of the afternoon is spent getting ready for our second formal night. We are going to go to dinner at 6.00, so hopefully there will not be too much of a queue. Just after midnight we will be passing Gallipoli but of course it will not be visible. We are due to arrive in Istanbul about 8.30 tomorrow, where we have a full day of sightseeing.
