Day 7 Naples to the Isle of Capri

Capri, Campania, Italy
Then onto Naples, a large but poor city. We didn't go though the city but just to the sea front where we were to take a ferry (45 minutes) across to the island of Capri. Our bus was to remain in Sorrento as it was too large for the islands roads. Oh I forgot to mention before. If you are staying less than 3 nights, you can only have one bag per room. So the night before we had to split our bags, so that one came with us to Capri and the other went straight to the Sorrento hotel. There had been a problem with the hotel over booking the rooms, so half our group had to be relocated to another hotel in Anacapri.. The ferry ride was pretty uninteresting but the seats were comfortable. We arrived at The Marina Grande just before 6.00 and were crammed into 2 smaller buses for our journey up a narrow cliff hugging road, nicknamed the Mama Mia road, to another village called Anacapri.
Shortly thereafter we arrived at the Hotel San Michele and discovered that this was located on the cliff edge too. Due to the overcrowding we were unlucky enough to be allocated a room in the basement or so it seemed. It was quite nicely decorated but had no windows that opened and it smelt very musty AND the air conditioning did not work. It was like a sauna.  While they were looking at it we looked around the hotel. It was furnished in a 'Franco Cotso" way. The gardens outside were expansive and there was a lovely swimming pool out back. There was a big terrace that overlooked the road and the Marina Grande way below. It took them nearly an hour to get the air conditioning working, by which time Edie had spat the dummy and refused to go to dinner. So I went alone while she washed her hair. This was our first included dinner and was surprisingly good. Pasta with tomato sauce followed by fish with potatoes and cauliflower with cheese sauce. We have been promised a new room in the morning so let's hope it's better than the one we are in.
