Day 15 Agrigento

Agrigento, Sicily, Italy
We reached the hotel in Agrigento at 2.40 and quickly put our hand luggage in our rooms before returning to the bus at 3.00 for our tour of the Valley of Temples. Covering about 100 acres, we took in the 4 main sites. Three of them were partial buildings, but the Temple of Concord was nearly complete. It was built about 20 years before the Acropolis in Athens. It has never been destroyed. Of course the marble has gone and so has the roof, but the remains are impressive as is the whole area. This time we were driven to the top of the valley and had to walk down which was so much easier. Also it was warm, but there was no humidity and there was a lovely cool breeze blowing all day.
Back at the hotel we gathered round the pool. You could not go swimming unless you wore a bathing cap. You could buy one for €4.00. No thank you. So we sat on the edge and dangled our feet in. It was great - our feet loved it. Dinner was a selection of antipasto followed by pasta, then veal parma without the breadcrumbs but with eggplant, carrots and potatoes, followed by cherry ice cream. Very filling. Edie has given up waiting for me to finish writing and is asleep, so I think it's time to turn off the light. Two more days in Sicily. We really like it here.
