So back on the coach and off to Palermo, the capital city of Sicily and our last port of call. It is large and has many impressive buildings. Our hotel is **** (4 stars) and is right on a major square. From our window we can see a very impressive building which I think is a theatre. I am going on an optional tour tonight at 6.30, which is to a renouned seafood restaurant. No set menu this time as all guests are given the same. Wine and water ( for which we pay big time each night) are included so it should be good. Edie is not coming as she is not a big fan of fish, unless it is a piece of flake from the local fish shop. So I will come back and finish this after I get back (if I haven't had too much of a good time).
Well I didn't get to finish last night because we got back quite late. One of the guests was left at the hotel by mistake and we had to wait for a taxi to bring him to the bus. There were a lot a "Madonna's" being said, especially by our tour leader Loredana. We missed seeing the seaside resort and the sunset because it was dark when we arrived.
The restaurant was empty. Italians don't eat until late. We had 2 tables assigned to us and as soon as we sat down the food started to arrive and never stopped coming. Tuna, sardines, anchovies, scrimp, mussels, squid, baby octopus, clams, swordfish, sea bass, crayfish. All small helpings, some with pasta and rice, very filling. Finished off with a beautiful lemon sorbet. Bottles of red and white wine were replaced as they were emptied.
So about 10.00 we drove back to the city with disco music blaring inside the bus. We whipped around the old town to see some of the sights we will get to see in detail later today. Meanwhile Edie found a MacDonalds and had some chips and then went shopping. She had a lovely time. When I got back she had the TV on a cable music station and was also enjoying the music. Well a big day ahead so must close for now.
