Day 1 Spirit of Tasmania

Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
We are sitting in a very long queue waiting to board the Spirit of Tasmania. We had a very haphazard route through the city, because of the Grand Prix. Just as well we left early. Added to this we were stopped for a breatherlizer . They picked on 2 elderly ladies while all the blokes in their Utes drove on. We found Pickle Street and then down to the sea. There were two cruise ships in, the Carnival Spirit and the Pacific Pearl obviously bringing rev heads to the motor races. We arrived at Station Pier at 4.30 and started to proceed on board at 6.10. I think it would have been better to arrive later. Because we were early we wound up on the very bottom deck, with 5 levels of cars above us. Guess we might be last off.
Anyway most of the cabins are on deck 8, and we were in cabin 8204 by 6.30. It is a 4 berth cabin but we have it to ourselves. Very compact but the bed linen was very fresh. We left our carry on bags in the cabin and went down to deck 7 where all the public areas are. We walked past a gambling area, a shop, a tourist info office, a restaurant, a cafe, a cafeteria and a lounge at the rear. The cafeteria was $25.50 for a large plate and $18.50 for a small plate, so we ended up with a pie and sauce in the lounge bar.
We sailed out at 7.20 past the cruise ships - it looked really nice. We are due to go out of the heads at 10.00 and pass the ferry coming to Melbourne at 1 am. We are having an early night as we will be woken by an announcement at 5.15 telling us what to do to disembark.
