It's so good to have a good nights sleep. My bed was a dream. Had another shower and cooked toast for breakfast. We were away by 9.30, driving back to Wynyard where we bought some fruit. We also went to two op shops where we both bought some things. Our petrol was between a quarter and a half a tank but we saw no petrol stations so we pushed on. At Somerset ( so many English names in Tasmania) we turned towards the south and had a long drive though countryside varying from forest, barren country which had been logged until we entered the Hellyer Gorge were we stopped for a break. Then it was along a very windy road until we met the Murchison Highway and then it was a straight run to the turn off to Cradle Mountain.
We arrived in the Cradle Mountain village just after 2pm. Petrol was $1.50 per litre so we just put in $30 worth. We bought a National Parks entry card for $60 which covers all national parks for 2 months.. We then went to the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village where we booked in. We were allocated cabin 35, right at the end of the units.
It was terrific ; very compact, with a queen bed, spa, lounge, TV, heaters, and small but adequate kitchen.
After a very quick sandwich we headed back to the village and caught a shuttle bus to Dove Lake. It took about 20 minutes to get there. The park is nearly treeless which was a surprise. It is covered in button grass which gives the water a brown colour but is perfectly all right to drink.
The weather was overcast and quite cool. Edie even put her gloves on. The view at Dove Lake was classic, even in the overcast conditions. We did some short walks before heading back to the car park to catch the shuttle back to the village.
As the restaurant is not open tonight we had some soup and a sandwich. We turned on the fake log heater and settled in to watch TV before having a spa before bed. Wonder what the rest of you are doing tonight?
