Day 7. Bronte Park to Hobart

Friday, March 20, 2015
Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
We were away by 8.00 this morning.the weather seems a bit finer. We are now on the Central Plateau and a hydro electricity area, therefore plenty of lakes and canals. Great for fishermen. At Tarraleah we passed 2 huge power stations. We were undecided whether to go into Tarraleah itself as it was off the road, but decided yes at the last minute. It was originally the working town for the power stations, but it was dismantled in 1996 when the power stations became largely automatic. The land was bought privately and a 5 star resort developed on the site. We had a lovely 5 star breakfast.
After this we pressed on through Ouse and Hamilton before turning off for the Mt Field National Park. Edie was feeling a bit sick at this stage and just wanted to lie down. We decided to press on to Russell Falls, but Edie would not go on the walk. There was a paved path making it easy for young and old to see them. It was definitely worth the walk. I took the alternative route back and happened upon a Potaroo eating by the track. He was not afraid of the camera.
On to New Norfolk (where we had been before) and I had some lunch and then it was a quick run on the freeway to Hobart . The one way streets gave us a few problems before we booked into the Best Western for 3 nights. Edie had a lie down and soon was as good as new. We went for a walk down to the shopping area but seems there is no late night shopping on Fridays. Maybe we will order room service later tonight. Edie's sister rang to tell Edie her house had been sold before auction. Hooray! We are off to the Salamanca Market in the morning and may do the hop on hop off bus in the afternoon.
