Back to reality!

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
This was just a quick visit as it was really just a stopover on our way back to Adelaide! But it also gave Gareth the chance to say his farewells to Josh, Jen & Reef and for us to see them all again and tell them about our trip as they were very excited to hear what we had been up to on Norfolk Island!

We arrived back into Sydney airport at about 5pm and after successfully making it through immigration and quarantine checks (my Tahitian weaving made it through! Yay!) we made our way to the taxi rank to catch a taxi to Josh & Jen's house. We hadn't been back on the mainland long before we were made to appreciate just how special Norfolk Island really is as we quickly discovered the people here are far less friendly or willing to help you out! We were instructed to go to taxi spot number 2 but the driver quickly starting ranting and raving that he couldn't fit all our bags in and basically refused to take us as you could clearly see that he could get them all in. We calmly moved down the rank to a larger taxi who was happy to take us and he explained that the other driver probably took one look at us, saw we were backpackers and assumed we only wanted to go the short distance to the main hostels so he didn't want to take us and lose a bigger fare!! Unfortunately for him, we were going a pretty long way and our fare was $67!!! He also missed out on doubling that fare as we arranged with this taxi driver to pick us up again in the morning and take us back to the airport! On top of that as we drove past him at the taxi rank he beeped his horn which apparently is a sign to other drivers that he just got a small fare job. That's karma for you eh?!

We arrived at Josh & Jen's house around 6pm and were greeted by a poorly looking Jen who was on her way to the post box to send their wedding invitations! When we got inside the house, we saw that Josh & Reef really didn't look much better! The poor family!!! They have all been battling a flu/cold for a few weeks and poor Jen had also picked up food poisoning! Not good!

We spent a while talking about the island and telling them all about our adventures and the people we had met. Josh loved looking at our photos and hearing our stories as he is very proud of his island after spending most of his youth growing up there. We decided none of us really felt like cooking dinner so ordered in some pizzas and watched The Voice before crashing out for the night ahead of our early start the next morning!
