Laurs Vs Thavamanny, round 2!

Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia
After a slight delay and a 5 hour flight, we arrived in Kuala Lumpur airport at about 22:30. After passing through here so many times at the start of our trip, it really felt strange being back! Especially as this was where everything began back in September. We found our bags and made our way through customs all without any issues, which meant we'd had no "presents" from anyone in Bali, and with a sigh of relief we made our way to the Departures hall.

When we booked the tickets for our onward flight to Siem Reap, we never received any confirmation of payment or our booking so we weren't really sure whether we had seats on the flight we wanted or not, although they were still showing in my Air Asia account online! We made our way over to the Service desk only to be told that, although there were about 5 people sitting behind the counter, they had now finished for the night so we would need to wait until they reopened at 4am! We had planned to spend the night in the airport anyway so this wasn't too much of a problem and headed off to find a quiet spot where we might be able to get a few hour's sleep! We found some comfy seats but it was way too noisy and busy to get any real sleep so we kind of dozed for a bit until it was time to try and sort out our tickets

At 4am, we were first in the queue at the Service desk. I was a little concerned as, when I tried to bring them up on my phone, the flight details were no longer listed amongst my other bookings! The man behind the counter wasn't particularly helpful and referred me to another service counter in another part of the airport. When I reached that counter, my heart sank as the person behind the desk was none other than Thavamanny (the lady who had been quite rude when we missed our connecting flight to Miri back in October!). As expected, her rudeness last time wasn't out of character as she was just as rude this time too! She explained that my payment had been declined and, therefore, at 02:41 that morning our booking had been cancelled! After initially telling me the flight was now full, she somehow found 2 seats but took great pleasure in telling me the price would now be much higher than the online price! She costed it all out and, to my amazement, it was actually £100 cheaper than the price we had paid online!!!! Obviously, I didn't tell Thavamanny that and even cheekily argued the fact she was charging me for selecting seats when they weren't the same ones I had previously selected and we now had no choice of where to sit!! This actually saved us even more money as she took the charge off . I was secretly very proud of myself.

Just like last time, right at the last moment she turned on the charm and offered to check in and put the tags on our baggage so we could walk to the front of the queue and drop them off without having to wait! When we saw the ridiculously huge queue for the baggage drop we figured that was never going to happen, but trying our luck we went to ask a guy who was working there and to our absolute amazement he pulled the barrier to the side and escorted us straight to the front, practically pushing us in front of the people already at the desk with their bags half on the conveyor belt. Well if that wasn't pay back for all the times the horrible Asian tourists push in front of us or ruin a picture then I don't know what is. Well a little bit anyway! I won't go as far as saying we're even yet. He he!

With this job done, and feeling a little smug, we decided to finally go and get something to eat and drink as we were starving by now. Matt had tried about 5 hours before but this turned into a bit of a mission as none of the food chains accepted cards, we had no Malaysian Ringets and none of the ATMs seemed to work! So we had sat for the entire night with no food or drink. With a bit of patience, we finally found one that did work and we were able to get some breakfast about 5:30am. It was funny going back into Starbucks here as we remembered moaning last time about how expensive everything was as we'd come from cheap Malaysian places, whereas this time the same things seemed cheap compared to prices we have paid elsewhere in the world! Just goes to show how the cost of something is always relative to so many other factors!

Our final job was to change up the rest of our Ringets into US Dollars (the preferred currency in Cambodia apparently!) before we made our way through to board our 06:50 flight!
