I left Mendoza on April 11 for BA on Argentinian Aerolineas a 1.5 hour flight for $240 dollars but it was an hour late leaving.   Once I arrived in BA, I took a taxi for 70 pesos to the Estoril Terrazas hostel that I found online but which I had not booked but saw they had vacancies so just arrived there and hoped for the best. I got a bed in a female dorm for 60 pesos, $15 which included breakfast.  They were probably the most hospitable and helpful hostel staff I have encountered and the hostel had a rooftop (downtown BA) patio with wonderful views of the surrounding streets and buildings, a bar, a tv room and a traveltour desk.
  The BA International Independent Film Festival http://www .bafici.gov.ar/home12/web/es/index.html had begun April 11 going to 22 so wanted to take in a few movies if possible before I returned to Canada. With a roommate, Melissa from Seattle,  I  attended Sherman's March, a grainy, homemade documentary made in 1986 http://rossmcelwee.com/shermansmarch.html purportedly regarding part of Civil War history but was more like a spoof about the filmmaker's quest to find a wife.   After 2.5 hours! the film spool had to be changed to show the second half! so Melissa and I decided we had had enough and ducked out of the half full theatre, which was only about a 10 minute walk from the hostel. Melissa and I had our sights on a `Tenedor Libre` restaurant on Avenida de Mayo, near the Hostel, which was an all you can eat buffet and whose pictures in the window showed it offered peas! broccolli! corn! - food which is seldom served in restaurants in Argentina, or Uruguay, as their food of choice is bbq or asado, cooked on a parilla or grill    So after a great 2 helpings meal, we made our way home to the hostel. The next day the hostel offered a free walking tour, which after an hour, became a paid one if we wanted to continue, so I did, with a few other people from other hostels. We walked about 3 hours, into San Telmo, and concentrated mainly on the importance of Eva Peron to the psyche and politics of Argentina and about some of the policies of the current President, Christina Fernandez de Kirschman. We were also informed about the disappearance of 30,000 people during the military dictatorship1976 to 1982 and the ritual of the grandmothers who walk around Plaza de Mayo monument every Thursday in rememberance of the disappeared. Part of the tour included a stop at a site in the Microcentre but close to San Telmo barrio where there were plaques containing names of the disappeared and where excavations are still being undertaken - hard to believe but in the middle of the city, these kind of excavations are going on right now.  
That night Melissa and I took in a German film, Totem - although  German with English and Spanish subtitles was still hard to understand what was going on and what the plot was, but I describe it as melancholic esoteric . The film was shown at Abasta Shopping Centre, way up Corrientes Avenida so we decided to take the subway but it was so crowded we couldn`t get on it,waited for the next one which was also too crowded so left the station and forfeited our 60cent ticket and took a bus instead! which although we got on, had to stand up the whole way, and increasingly got more and more crowded as we left the city centre. We missed the showing at 7 p.m. of a film we wanted to see, so went to Totem instead at about 8:30 and had something to eat in the food court. I had seldom seen quinoa vegetarian burger with salad and she had Chinese food with greens!   Who knew `good food`was only a bus ride away to a shopping centre food court... the next day was Sat. August 14 and I left on a 14 hour crossed fingers Air Canada flight to Toronto via Santiago, Chile.  Had a window seat and took some pictures of the beautiful Andes mountains as it was a sunny, clear day. Stopped in Santiago and had to disembark so the plane could be cleaned and got back on after a very confusing entrance in the Santiago airport. Got into Toronto about 20 minutes early.
