Soggy Miami

Miami, Florida, United States
No photos yet, as we haven't gotten around to taking any. But the trip is officially underway, and it's off to a good start. We arrived in Miami with hordes of other fun-seekers, all wanting the same cab! Luckily we found a couple from Sweden with marginal English skills and shared a cab to South Beach. Our hotel is a real art deco reno with bright red and aqua walls, period furniture (period= lots of old crap that's been painted to look just like painted old crap), chandoliers (generous description) and the best part--A free happy hour, of which we partook. The rum and vodka were flowing and the room was filled with people getting happy. It was a fun start to the holiday. Miami was experiencing a day of record heat (91 degrees) but it was still very pleasant. Wewalked and found a funky bar b que restaurant where we had a holiday-appropriate meal The pulled chicken and a salad made for a really satisfying meal, even (dare I sat it) a healthy one. Most importantly, there was a nice room, a hot shower, and cozy bed at the end of the day. All in all, a great intro night to this trip.

Today, we headed to the beach and got in about 2 hours of bumming before the clouds burst, and we were showered with a warm rain. Actually, it was refreshing, but killed the rest of the day at the beach. So, we did what any roadworthy blogger would do-- we found the nearest computer and this is the result. Tonight, we're back to the hotel for another happy hour party, and probably stagger back to our room to repack for tomorrow's departure.

I know that this is not much of a newsy, and probably not a very interesting, entry. I'll try to do better as the trip progresses. As for the next 2 weeks, we'll be aboard the ship, which at 75 cents a minute for internet usage, means that I won't be using it for at least the first week as we are crossing the Atlantic. After that, in Tenerife, Canary Islands, our first port of call, I'll try to find an Internet cafe to fill you in. Hope to have some pics as well.

Enjoy the week,
David

But at least we know where you are!
I'm delighted to hear you two are off to a great start and I'm looking forward to hearing more! I want photos!!! Lots, so long as no one is wearing a lampshade as a result of the free happy hour. No wait a minute, I DO want you to post that one for future...use. Heh.

Bon voyage!

Mici

Re: But at least we know where you are!
Hi Mici,

Great to hear from you. You know that you set the bar very high with your Greece and Hawaii blogs, and I can´t hope to equal your excellent writing. For one thing, I can´t remember the names of half of the things we´re seeing and I don´t have the discipline to keep an on-going record. So, my entries will always be short on detail, but I try to make it up by painting a verbal picture of the sights and feelings that they inspire. I loved your blog entries because they were so informative while concurrently reflecting your reactions to what you were doing.

We feel so fortunate to be able to take this trip, and are regularly pinching ourselves or each other. Thus far, it´s been so much fun. We´re making it up as we go along with few set plans. This is very empowering, challenging, but ultimately, so rewarding and liberating. We´ve taken advanage of some nice opportunities and missed others. The photos, unfortunately will have to wait, until I can find the time to figure out how to get them on the blog. Not to worry, however, as I´ll be happy to share the 10,000 pictures I´m liable to be taking on this holiday :-). Take care and regards to Marv.

Re: shikkurim
Cute little freeform poem, Allan, but don´t give up your day job. Royal Caribbean just wasn´t the same without you guys. We were on a sister ship to the Voyageur, so you guys made it almost daily into our thoughts. Needless to say, the trip is going very well, and we managed to avoid the aggressive pickpockets in Barcelona, though I did have one guy try to put his hand into my back pocket and I caught him at it. Either he was trying to get my wallet or it was this Spaniard´s way of asking me out. Regardless, all he got was a whack from a bag Bonnie was carrying and which she used to communicate her disapproval! We hope that all is well with you guys, and I will look forward to more of your pithy comments. Keep em coming. All the best, buds!
