Nervous and Excited

The title says it all.

Like most of our longer trips, this one involved a fair amount of planning and preparation, with a bunch of concurrent personal and family obligations to make it that much more challenging

Further complicating our preparations was trying to figure out how to accommodate cold weather, wet weather, hot weather, informal clothes, formal wear, and all the extra travel paraphernalia in the space of one bag each. Hence, we're packing swimsuits and shorts along with our winter parkas. It represented a logistical nightmare with some tough keep or leave behind decisions along the way. Besides bag and airline restrictions, we needed to consider what it would take to schlep all of our belongings on countless buses and trains, not to mention the narrow steep staircases you typically find in European B&Bs. It turned out that packing was the hardest part.

As usual for us, beyond London, we're not certain where we're heading during our time in the U.K. We've made no plans, booked nothing, and will let destiny carry us on our journey. This formula, which many might not choose for their travels, works for us. Actually, it''s very liberating, once you overcome the terrors of dealing with the unknown. Hell, it's worked for us thus far, so why not continue to do it this way?

Our next entry will be from London, assuming that we survive the remainder of our preparations and the transatlantic flight. Thanks for sharing this trip with us!
