GRATEFULLY HOME

We've been back home just over a week now, and this brief entry will be our last for this trip. First off, I wanted to thank those of you who provided feedback, made comments, and sent emails in response to the blog entries. They meant a lot to us, and it was great hearing what you thought of the blog or telling us what was going on back home. We always wondered whether it was being read, and if so, what the reaction would be. I tried to keep the entries reasonable in length and interesting to read, creating the blog for two reasons:1) to serve as a archive of our trips that we can go back to and enjoy in the future and 2) to let family and friends know what we’re up to on our travels.

This trip proved to be a particularly memorable one for us, for a few reasons. First off, as usual, we had no fixed itinerary once our escorting duties were over in Paris. We knew not where we would go, yet it worked out brilliantly. We booked flights and hotels on a day-by-day basis, and almost everything went well. This type of travel is clearly not for everyone, but it has worked well for us up to now. We let serendipity play a role, and often followed our whims or the suggestions of others on the road. We really could not have asked for a better time, and the trip has only whetted our appetite for further Asian travel.

Next, neither of us got sick during the entire seven weeks, a major feat, given that we ate a real variety of foods, and much of it from street vendors. We managed to avoid ailments of any type, Bonnie’s feet were very cooperative, particularly given the amount of walking we did and the countless stairways and hills that we climbed. We dodged colds, skin issues, and even sunburn, a real trick given the intense sun of the tropical climates in which we traveled.

Finally, we’re grateful. Grateful for the ability to take this kind of trip, grateful for its successful outcome, and most of all, grateful to have people who love and care about us, We feel truly blessed.
