Coastal drive to Jordan River

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Richard is still playing with the Pontiac the hood is always up and he thinks there is something wrong with the lower rubber pipe that goes from the engine to radiator. It looks soft and flat I hate with he goes online and self diagnoses things especially himself as I have to start planning the funeral.

Forgot to mention yesterday in the blog (was very tired from all the walking) that Darryl was very thoughtful and bought an Esky, bricks and containers for us when he was at the SuperStore shopping. The items were a good price better then Walmart and it would save us a trip more time for seeing Vitoria.

With a late start Richard keyed in the directions to Sooke in the GPS and we were on our way. The traffic was good and Richard is getting the hang off driving on the wrong side of the road. We sort of both drive the car I look to the right for cars and Richard looks to the left when we are at corners. I look for the traffic lights seeing they are overhead ones not on the side of the road like ours plus tell Richard to keep to the right and speed limits. They change all the time 50kms in built up areas, then the other roads go from 60 to 70 to 80 then 90kms on the Highways.

The drive to Sooke was scenic the fir trees remind us of driving through Alaska. Stopped at the Information Centre at Sooke for sights to see. Thought we would give the famous Potholes a miss too long a walk to see pools of water. From the photos in the pamphlet looked like places we have seem in WA. Decided to go to the other spots the young lad suggested, but first of all we had fun getting petrol. Only two places to get petrol before turning back to Victoria and were only had half a tank. Here you have to pay by Credit Card at the bowser not inside like we do at home and the bowser doesn't take Debit Cards. So I hope this it's going to happen at every petrol station or should I say Gas Station. Petrol cost $1.41 a litre.

MacGregor Park was fun finding even Jill the GPS couldn't find the attractions but a few drive-by's and we found them. All the Parks are very well laid out with plants, paths, lawn and spots to sit. Took a video. There is a winding path down to the Boardwalk (like the jetty at Busselton) where boats are moored and people were fishing and catching crabs.

The two Boardwalks are part of Government Wharf in the Sooke Harbour you will see in the photos plus a photo of us. Went we walked back a different way we passed this really different modern wooden two storey house.

Next spot we drove to was Whiffen Spit Beach where you walk right out to the point but on the two occasions we went there the sea mist or fog came in it was very cold and you couldn't see a bloody thing. Did manage to take a video the second time and dropped my soft video pouch. The coastal beaches consist of smooth pebbles and a lot of drip wood. Saw a deer roaming in front of a house on the shore line (all homes are built on the shore line like you see in the movies and on TV).

Continued along West Coast Road lots of different fir trees on both sides of the highway and very mountainous.

Next stop was French Beach took some photos and the view is very much the same as Alaska. Sat for a while to soak up the view and have a rest. You can see Richard surfing on a log and me resting.

Getting hungry now so decided to have lunch at China Beach Provincial Park seeing there wasn't a place to park at Jordan River. The volunteer Park ranger was very talkative (there are Donation Boxes on a table with phamplets before you walk to the parks or beaches).

It was a three quarter mile winding walk on a pine boardwalk above the vegetation through the pinetrees to China Beach and the beach looked just the same as French Beach but it had black sand with pebbles so didn't bother taking pictures.

As it was getting late and about 100kms from Victoria we decided to turn around instead of doing the big loop and drive back to Victoria.

Seeing we had the Esky now we decided to find the closest SuperStore (GPS job) and buy food for the next week. Turned out to be another late night.
