Excitement different scenery to Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Hope our next accommodations in Winnipeg doesn't have a loud air conditioner it will be another night with ear plugs. The room we had at Executive Royal Hotel was lovely exactly the same as the photos on Trip Advisor bar the microwave. At least the water flow from the showerhead didn't come out like Niagara Falls nearly killing you. There is no control of the water flow the handle only goes one way FAST and you cannot adjust the showerhead.

Breakfast was different this morning seeing we didn't have bowls two small microwave lunch boxes did the trick with the plastic spoons from IGA.

The hotel trolley saved a lot of time with taking our luggage to the car. Seeing the coolers weren't frozen (no freezer in little fridge) We loaded a plastic bag with ice from the ice dispenser downstairs.

Back on Hwy 1 to Winnipeg over 550kms to share driving today and we actually saw a female police office book someone on the highway. It's very hazy this morning. With the early start there is not much traffic on the highway just us and the double semi trailers going to Winnipeg and coming from Winnipeg on the other side of the double highway. The scenery has changed now more rolling hills of wheat, canola oil and green lentils. Canada (Saskatchewan) is the worlds largest exporter of the green lentils and second largest canola (oilseed) crop grown in the province and supplies 10% of the world's total exported wheat and is Canada's most important grain producing region. There is plenty of water everywhere you can see pond with bulrushes all the way as you travel along the highway.

All the fields you pass have bales of hay in the fields don't know if these are for cattle or what. Lots of big grain silos on farms and depots in towns passed through Indian Head the railway line runs in tandem with the highway plus the grain depots. One goods train over a km long broke the boredom again. Traffic on the other side of the highway is picking up now more people travelling on holidays with their vans plus there are a lot of First Nation (Indians) towns off the highway on the left of Hwy1.

The scenery changed after Broadview lots of trees on both sides of the highway I think it was the Scenic Qu Appelle Drive to Whitewood. Stopped at the Information Centre at the Saskatchewan border before entering Manitoba where Winnipeg is probably the capital. Stretched our legs had a coffee break, went to the Washroom, got some brochures and signed the Visitors Book.

Time for me to drive for the next two hours nearly have the highway to myself except the few semi trailers I overtake and there are less dead animals on the highway. Richard has nodded of the sleep so no photos or videos. I can't get over the rich clay soil there is no wonder they are the largest exporters.

Just before Moosomin there was miles of wind turbines on the farm land must be a good money maker for the farmers. I would hate to live near one of those the humming noise would drive you insane plus it has been proven the turbines are no good for your health.

Richard is awake now so I have someone to talk to instead of singing to myself. With the change of land we are now going through a Spruce Wood Plantation it is nice to see fir trees once again. Pity Richard didn't take a photo his answer was he took a photo in his head. Ha! ha! Good news the mobile rang and we have two nights accommodation booked in Winnipeg. Nearly thought we would be sleeping in the Pontiac. Mum must be looking after us again as Janine said they had a last minute cancellation and the unit was available for the next two days. Good price $75.00 a night looks good on the Internet and is opposite a park.

Getting tired now and there are no way lays to pull into plus all the petrol stations are on the other side of the double highway and towns are not on the highway. So the next slip road I pulled into for us to have lunch and a cup of coffee. Glad to stretch my legs ran in the corn field to have a pee and for Richard to take over the driving. Only a hundred or so kms to Winnipeg. Had to put our watches forward an hour.

Why is it every town we spend the night in the highway to the town is being repaired. What a nightmare it was getting to the unit, which was in a one way street. It is a small two storey building we missed the first time I jumped out and walked up the street and found it then jumped back in the car and gave direction to park at the back of the unit No. 4 bay. Only ten minutes late Janine is a lovely person showed us up to the unit on the second floor. Her and her husband Randy rent out the other eight units, have two as holiday units and live in the basement unit near the laundry. The block of units or apartments reminds me of the movies or CSI.  I think I watch too many American shows. Bill and Julie would love Janine and Randy they are very religious couple and there are lots of verses from the Bible around the unit.

Settled in the unit Randy showed Richard how to use the TV and DVD plus this is another place like the Old Entrance B n B where they like you to no wear shoes in the unit. Randy asked if we minded if they showed a couple the unit at 6pm we said okay but no one turned up so we showered and had our dinner.

The unit is on the top floor and is hot so the little air conditioner is in overdrive. With gaining an hour time passed very quickly it was nice to fall in bed and die.
