English River, Ontario, Canada
Normal routine up at 6.30am shower, breakfast, make lunch and pack the Pontiac. Saw Janine to get a copy of invoice plus for her to sign and state $75.00 deposit to be refunded to Richard's MasterCard. Detour to Walmart (low on coffee) as Richard tried to use their coffee machine but forgot to put lid on glass pot to percolator. Ground coffee and water went everywhere what a laugh but time consuming cleaning it up.

Traffic busy at 9am had to go part of the way through capitol city of Winnipeg to get to the highway. Was nice to get out of the city and on the highway. Start of Hwy 1 was like the prairies cattle and grain crops then progressed into Spruce forests on both sides of the highway. Saw the first rest area and petrol station on our side of the highway near Pinewoods before they were all on the other side. We both got a fright when a km long goods train went by the Driver sounded the whistle I think it was because there was another km long goods train coming. Not much traffic on the road only a lot of big semi trailers both ways on the highway. Passed the Whiteshell Provincial Park all Spruce forest and Sandalwood trees.

On the lookout for the police near Falcon Lake (saw the sign) only saw a copper on a motorbike going the other way. Nice view of Falcon Lake cabins on the shore line and people fishing. The scenery is now changing the road is winding and cut through granite rock. The double lane highway is now dual single lane and speed limit is 90kms not 110kms hard to overtake the semi's have to wait for the hills and the takeover lanes. We are in Ontario Province now a police state with signs buckle up, no talking on mobiles and no speeding. $95.00 fine for doing 110km with 2 demits, fine goes up with speed limits and if you are 50kms over the speed limit you get a $10,000.00 fine.

Kenora area is First Nation territory I think and it is by Lake of the Woods, looking at the map of Canada this large section of Ontario is mainly all lakes so there are lots of cabins, camping and fishing. It was like travelling through the mountains in BC and Jasper/Banff National Parks without the mountains. Lots of Spruce forests and lakes all beautiful scenery picture perfect again so no need to take photos as the lakes start all looking the same. took a video of Clearwater Bay (cabins and fishing area).

Richard and I commented that we hadn't seen any motorbikes or cyclists when low and be told coming up on the other side of the highway was this old "Greenie" (long fuzzy hair and beard) cycling then we saw a couple of motorbikes. There were a few road signs where I thought of Denise and John (Inglis Rd), Beryl Trail, Joyce Rd, Perth Ave, Midland Rd made us have a laugh and think of home.

Starting to feel hungry and Richard wanted to go to the toilet (couldn't see any Biffies) so the next little road Richard turned off and it was to Dogtooth Lake so we enjoyed lunch, coffee and stretched our legs plus a little walk in the bushes for toilet duties (caught Richard in the act). Nice and peaceful here by the lake but we must continue on Richard doesn't want a break from driving seeing he had a good rest in Winnipeg. Saw lots of communication towers and the railway line was weaving through the forest, by the lakes and either sides of the highway with a few goods trains to break the boredom of looking at lakes and spruce trees. There was some farmland of grain and cattle after Vermillion Bay nearly half way to English Bay.

There were hold ups with construction on the bridges from near Minnitara, Machin. Started to see some lumber saw mills from Oxford then we entered Dryden (population of 8,000) a big town compared to what we have passed through so far looks like an industrial town.

The weather is getting cooler and clouds are appearing might get some rain by the time we reach English Bay. at the moment we have the windows down to cool off. Here we go again bridge contruction work at Wabigoon Lake seems to be construction work every 10 or so kms. The go slow adds travel time but at least the highways in Canada are in good condition no potholes like WA.

Doing the km count down now for Enlish Bay Inn and we are finally there right on the lake what a lovely view. Booked in Bruce the Owner is waiting for us we are in Cabin 104 like a hotel room nice and comfortable. Bruce also let me know the time is different now and to add another hour. Put our food in the Community Kitchen had a shower as we were hot and sticky from being on the road. Met a couple who are going back home to Winnipeg after holidaying in Thunder Bay. They were glad to be off their motorbike with little trailer as it started to rain. I am glad I bought mince and made two batches of rissoles as I wasn't going out in the rain to cook meat on the BBQ. Cooked the veggies in the microwave (had to get a sharp knife from Bruce) and had another hit and miss with operating the microwave but dinner was lovely.

Said our goodbyes to the other couple and said we might see they for breakfast tomorrow. Retired early to pay some bills on the Internet and do today's blog also change the time zone on the laptop. WIFI here is a bit slow plus the mozzies are trying to eat us. Richard went for a walk by the lake while I was on the laptop came back a little wet but enjoyed the walk.
