Richard doesn't want to leave here he loves the lay back feel he gets from everyone that lives here, but I am sorry to say the 6.45am freight train has woken us for the last time. Checked emails for answers for accommodation in Brampton but still no reply from Krystyan tried ringing her but her phone was engaged for over an hour. Time was marching on 9am and we didn't want to hang around waiting. Sent another email to her to ring my mobile.
Pontiac is all packed and we are ready to go exchanged email address with Julie and Paul said our goodbyes till January next year if we catch up. Hwy 400 here we come
and you wouldn't believe it back to the usual views dual highway, which is quiet at the moment the old familar bumble bee cones from Hidden Glen Road and resurfacing of road from hwy 156 to Port Severn.
Driving through Waha Mohawk Territory and Muskoka got a fright when a little black squirrel ran out on the highway. Its overcast and a bit cool at the moment but I am sure the weather will brighten up as the day goes by. Took a detour to Hwy 147 onto Hwy 12 to have a look at Victoria Harbour and Midland the views going there were of maple, pine and oaks trees with homes sprinkled in between. Stop lights and bridgeworks at Sturgeon River stopped here for petrol at the Shell Station $132.9 too dear. Jill was a bit upset because we are going in a different direction Richard changed the details and we are okay again. Not really much to see in Victoria Harbour a lot of expensive two storey homes and units by the harbour and many yachts in the Marina. All the homes we drive by are tiny wooden two storey square houses nothing like our homes. Bob and Linda mentioned to see Midland (Population 16,000) which is not far from Victoria Harbour so off we go there and the petrol at Petro Canada is a good price $128.1 full service but we didn't get the windscreen cleaned (extra charge). The attendants loved the car and was amazed we are travelling across Canada to Halifax and said we will get a good price for the Pontiac when we sell it.
This is a big town and with every town here you always seem to pass loads of Car Yards on the way into the towns. Decided to have morning tea at a parking area overlooking the bay when we spoke to a lady out walking and she told us of some spots to see one being Mundy's Harbour just down the road. Took a video and photos of Mundy's Harbour then drove back to Midland Harbour for a walk around.
. Started raining again plus time was marching on and I told Marg we would be in Brampton to see her just after 12 noon and it is now after 1pm. No time to go to Sainte Marie Among the Hurons I think that is where the lady said the tall ships were. Hard to find toilets in towns so looked for a McDonald's but saw a Shopping Mall on other side of road and went there. Pretty dead half the shops are vacant and it must be Seniors day at the local Café near the "Washrooms".
Returned to Hwy 93 usual scene of farms, maple, oak and pine trees, horses as we passed through the different towns of Wyebridge, Waverley, Orr Lake and of course the roadworks near the towns. Back on Hwy 400 with the maple, oak and pine forests, roadworks from Forbes St turn off (that's all you see on the highways) with sprinkles of corn, maze, canola and wheat farms. as we enter Barrie (a very big town) the bumble bee cones start again and now we have a three lane highway which is very busy. Scenery is farms again to Hwy 407 West which is a Express Toll Route and cars from other states pay a toll. Ontario cars have a trans controller which is sensed when on the highway and we are recorded by video to be charged a fee. Bad news is we won't be paying the fee.
Now on a four lane highway and people drive like maniac's all you see now is high voltage towers for power. Getting close to Brampton now just passed the Airport turn off Ext 10 to Hurontario Street and stopped at the Shopping Centre at Longo's for milk. Couldn't get over how many Indians and Pakistani's live in Brampton.
Missed Holland Christian Homes where Marg lives in McLoughlin Street Sth went around the block and parked near Reception to get directions to Providence Tower where Marg lives and where to park the car. Each building has high security you can get through the first door but you have to ring who you are visiting for them to let you in (just like the movies). Marg is deaf and didn't hear us ringing her but we were lucky someone was going in anf let us in. Up the lift to the 6th floor and once again Marg didn't hear us knock and naughty Marg had the door unlocked so we just walked in plus Richard heard her call out "come in".
It was great to finally see Marg but also a shock as she is so frail looking now just reminds me of how Mum looked. Met Marg's Dutch neighbours Willy and her husband Peter very lovely couple who look out for Marg plus do her shopping for her. We brought all our things up to Marg's to stay as we still hadn't heard from Krystyna for the vacational rental we wanted to stay in for 3 nights. marg wanted us to stay with her we commandeer her bedroom and she slept on her chesterfield (sofa) where Linda usually sleeps when she comes up from Florida. Marg is very absent minded and we found all the controls to the TV's and bed so Richard has the bedroom TV working and the side of the bed that was raised is now flat the same as the other side.
We went back down to Longo's and bought a roast chicken for dinner. Marg has her hot meal at lunch 12.30pm every day and just has a snack at night. The night nurse came with Marg's evening medication and got her ready for bed. When she came I was getting chicken and Greek Salad ready for the three of us (Marg only has a small amount). The nurse was glad we were there helping her and making sure she eats.
We enjoyed talking about the last time I was there with Mum looked at photos and I showed her our Wedding photos. Time was marching on Marg goes to sleep at 9pm with her cat Faith we showered and retired for the night too.
