The bed is so comfy we had a really good nights sleep even with nightshades on and earplugs. I got up early to try and catch up with the blog but I am a slow writer. We have both woken in a better mood today and ready to attack Niagara Falls. It's nice to be best friends and in love again all is back to normal.
Richard was out talking to Orlando while I was doing our lunch and packing the car. It was a bit cool but it wasn't raining Orlando said it was going to be a lovely warm sunny day look for sightseeing. The area where their property is, is rural and the water is carted there they are not connected to the water supply plus on deep sewerage. Have to be careful with what we do. After chatting with Pat and Orlando (they wanted to know if everything was okay and we told them we loved their little piece of country life.
It is lovely driving through Chippawa county where they live there are corn and soya bean farms, horses, beautiful big homes along the Welland River that we drive by and suburbia housing estates a mixture of everything.
Parked in the driveway at the Rapidsview WEGO Bus Terminal as we didn't know where to park I ran in looking for the entry with a very nice chap (Bus Driver I think) saw I looked confused. He told me the bus didn't leave from here it left from the Floral Showhouse and the best place to park was at Dufferin Islands as it was free. All the other parking areas were $5.00 an hour (Mum and Dad are looking after us again). Was a bit tricky finding the road at first but we found it parked the car. This nature area is popular with hikers and bird watching plus explore several quiet and secluded small islands connected by footbridges and paths. So peaceful and named after Lord Dufferin who founded the Canadian Commission of Parks back in 1889.
Crossed the Niagara Parkway to walk along the path besides the Niagara River. Lots of ducks on the lawn near the river had to watch where you stepped.
The rapids are so fast and beautiful to watch it is a pity the old hydro electric generating station built in 1917 is fenced off and not a tourist site. The Floral Showhouse gardens are very beautiful but we are not into gardens just walked by and enjoyed the gardens.
The wind is a bit cool and we put our jumpers on boy am I glad I have Marg's raincoat. Walked through the bridge roadworks what a traffic hold up.
Getting close to the Falls now and Richard had to put on his poncho as the wind was carrying the mist/spray from the Falls.
The sound of the water and seeing the water pounding over at 60km or more an hour is unbelievable you are mesmerized. The pressure of the water has erroded the falls which have reseded or fallen away by seven miles since first dicovered by a french explorer Father Hennepin in 1678.
We went in the main centre to do our first tour Journey Behind the Falls (they swipe your Adventure Pass you wear around your neck). You get in a lift and go down about 170ft through tunnels to see glimpses of the water falling at high speeds
then you go outside near the base to look at the falls. You have to wear ponchos as you get wet from the spray from the falls. Sunday was a good day to go not that many tourists in the early part of the morning. Back up the lift (didn't buy the photo of us) and onto the next attraction Niagara Fury which is a film with visual effects of the creation of the falls. We couldn't work out why we had to wear ponchos till we went in the second circular theatre which was over water with hand rails. Snow and mist sprayed on you for the ice age beginning of the falls then later when there was water you had water pouring down on you as though you were in the rapids. It was fantastic didn't mind getting wet it made the film authentic and at the end of each attraction you go to you leave via the Souvenir Shop and there are lots of them including food outlets in Niagara.
On the subject of food Richard is now addicted to the Tim Horton's donuts (two for $2.00) so he tried a different one coconut coated with cream(custard) inside I had a blueberry, raspberry bran muffin more healthy.
Ate these outside the Niagara Falls Main Centre with our coffee for morning tea. Have taken lots of videos and photos a place to enjoy and remember.
We are enjoying the views so much we haven't bothered catching the WEGO bus we justed walked everywhereand to each attraction we paid to see. From the right you have the Canadian Horseshoe Falls and as you walk along a bit you stand in front of the American Falls with Goat Island separating the two falls. You can see the people on the american side of Niagara River the canyon between the two countries is very steep. There are steeps on the American side that takes people down to their Maid of the Mist Tours where on the Canadian side you take a lift down and of course get another plastic poncho. You feel like canned sardines on the boat but it is an experence you don't want to miss. I only wish that when Mum and I came in 1999 (I think) that we could have done these things but Marg went off somewhere we lost her and we didn't want to venture away in case she came back plus Herb gave us a time to meet him to go back to Brampton. So Mum and I only had a quick view of the Falls while trying to find Marg plus it was cold in late October a hot chocolate warmed us up.
Anyway back to the Maid of the Mist we decided to have lunch before the tour and sat outside in the garden all the gardens here are beatuifully maintained. Met some lovely people on the boat plus have be able to get lots of people to take photos and videos of us. Going right up to within ex amount of metres of the falls was an adrenilon rush getting wet but the pounding water of the fallsand being so close. The boat has powerful engines fighting the current of the water which is very strong. The boat also goes up close to the American Falls so you have the experience of being soaked again but it is worth the experience. A tour never to forget plus we saw where we had been earlier this morning at the base of the Falls. When we reached the top again we passed an outdoor area where a Elvis Presley impersonator was performing he was good entertainment.
After the Maid of the Mist we decided to walk up Clifton Hill Canada's largest entertainment complex featuring hundreds of the latest redemtion games and rides. It was like Sideshow Alley on a grand scale.
Getting late now and we are a bit tired from all the walking and sightseeing so we waiting at the base of Clifton Street to catch the WEGO bus back to Floral Showhouse. Meet some Irish girls holidaying and they were going to do the White Water Walk which we will do tomorrow.
Walked the pathway through Dufferin Island (will see this tomorrow) to the car which Richard thought he didn't lock. What a great day and it is nice to be back to normal no stress or worries. Off to Walmart for some supplies if you don't eat you don't live and we eat a lot of good healthy food. Tonight we have fresh corn and pineapple for dinner.
While I put everything away and caught up with some computer work Orlando took Richard for a drive in his Lincoln round the Chippawa area down round the Welland River where the expensive homes are met some of his employees . Orlando has a trucking business and saw where the workers live. I am glad Richard had a lovely afternoon with Orlando brought his stress levels down a lot.
Later when we were preparing dinner Orlando and Pat were getting their pool ready for winter I think Pat was doing all the work while Orlando was watching. Nothing like part emptying the pool and putting on the winter cover. While BBQing our steak we talked about the cruises we had all done plus they have a holiday home in Florida where they go to escape the Canadian winter. They are mad they drive from Niagara to Florida (2500miles) in one go.
Enjoyed eating our cornin the outdoor area while the steak was cooking. Our steak with salad then dessert of fresh pineapple was beautiful will have to buy some more corn and pineapple tomorrow they are cheap.
Caught up with Phyllis and John on Skype Phyllis was a bit worried about us seeing we were very depress and stressed out yesterday when we spoke to them. John was a petal and they drove to our place to get the serial numbers of antivirus and Microsoft 2013 Home and Student for me to download on the laptop. I thanked John for his email and they had fun trying to find the disks also Phyllis checked the house for us seeing there have been some bad storms in Perth.
Shower and bed time have more to see tomorrow.
