Early bird me awake at 5.30am and out of bed at 6am went online to check emails, sent email to Ben Prins to say we would be in Brampton this morning and I would ring him as soon as we arrived to clean-up and do downloads on my laptop. Finished yesterdays blog so I am now up to date for everyone to read.
Richard the sleepyhead is now up and we are in packing mode shower, breakfast, make lunch and coffee, pack the Pontiac. While I am doing most of this Richard is having coffee with Orlando and Pat plus getting a receipt for the four days we stayed at Pat's Country Home, which we thoroughly enjoyed and found very relaxing. I joined them with my coffee and Orlando showed us the best routes to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec. Being in the trucking business he said the highways around Toronto and to Ottawa are a nightmare too many double semi's plus the traffic is very heavy and busy. This put both Richard and I in meltdown. Pat said when they go to Ottawa they go via USA where the highway is quicker, more quiet and has nice scenery. So looks like we go back to Niagara to cross the border to USA will have to get the Passports out for the days journey.
Hope we can key the routes into the GPS. All our maps are highlighted with the highways to follow right to Halifax. Orlando is a good talker so it was lucky when his mobile rang at 10am and we were able to escape (got his Business Card with email in case we need any more help with where to go).
On our way to QEW Hwy we noticed a spitfire plane on a small airfield will have to email Orlando and ask him about it, as when we first came in on Saturday to was pouring with rain. Well we are back to the bumble bee cones and bridgeworks we now know why there is so much roadworks on the highways. Salt is put on the roads to melt the ice and when the snow trucks move the snow off the roads they also take part of the road surface leaving holes. The ice may fill the holes but when it comes to summer there are big potholes and the road needs to be resurfaced. had the cones till Lyons Creek Road then more works on the bridge at the McLeod Road section.
This time it was nice to see the views we missed on the way to Niagara Falls but you sort of know about that so no need to describe the scenery. Veered off QEW Hwy to Hwy 407 Express Toll Route (will be interesting to see where the bill for travelling on the highway will go). Section of the highway have been resurfaced thence the bumble bee cones by the side of the road the whole length we are travelling on Hwy 407.
Richard has now learnt when the big semi's and trucks slow down and do the correct speed there is a cop car coming from behind us (good old two-way radio's). The traffic isn't too bad today all running very smoothly. Only took about 1hr.15mins to Marg's from Chippawa Niagara.
We were very lucky a couple were coming out of Providence House to let us in and surprised Marg, she was so pleased to see us again. Bob's sister who rents Marg's Condo in Church St was visiting Marg with a friend when we arrived had a chat and they left. I left a couple of phone messages for Ben Prins to say we were at Holland Christian Homes with Marg and ready for him to fix my laptop. Marg wanted some milk and cookies (we call biscuits) so we walked over to Sonya's Convenience Store in the Main Building. Lovely to catch up with her plus she wanted to know if we had a lovely time in Niagara which we did. While there I went to Reception and left another message for Ben Prins do you think I am a bit anxious to get my laptop fixed!!!
Seeing it was 12.30pm Marg went to have her hot lunch and we went back to her unit to have lunch and I left another message to Ben plus Richard suggested sending an email which was more successful as He replied and was coming over when he finished his lunch after 2pm.
What a lovely chap in an hour and 10mins he fixed the problems I wanted done Richard now has his Ezy Station to do his share charting, I have my Thunderbird email for getting Westnet back (forgot to tell him to download the Address Book), on Explore I have Westnet home page back and all the bits I don't use are gone and I have my own antivirus program back the other tow Y2K put on he deleted. The only thing he couldn't do was Microsoft 2013 but he is looking into that for me and hopefully will have it tomorrow. The $60.00 was well worth it plus richard and I are very happy to have nearly all the programs back. Richard couldn't wait to do his Ezy Charting and check on shares.
While on the laptop updating the blog Lindy was on Skype and we had a chat (Marg was so happy to see Lindy's face) plus she emailed Bob's way to go to Ottawa which she said was better and we agreed. Staying in a cabin in Algonquin Park seeing moose would be more enjoyable than driving on a highway through USA.
We all decided to go to Swiss Chalet for dinner after Marg had her 4.30pm ritual glass of wine she used to have with Stew when he was alive plus the night nurse comes at 5.30pm with Marg's medication.
Jill the GPS sent us on a wild goose chase to nowhere but at least Marg was her old home in Mclaughlin St she shared with Stew and I stayed at back in 1988. Marg gave Richard directions we went through Brampton township which we hadn't seen before (rush hour now with traffic) and we finally found the Swiss Chalet. Boy was Jill way out we were on the other side of Brampton must have been an old location.
Julia at Swiss Chalet has been serving Marg for many years and was pleased to finally meet us plus she knows Marg's health is getting worse everyday and it is good we have come now as she may not know us in a few years time.
Julia took a photo of us and we had a lovely meal there Marg enjoyed herself with another glass of wine so she will sleep well tonight.
Quick trip home no problems with putting Marg's walker in the car. Made up the Chesterfield for her and we all got ready for bed. Made sure Marg had her night time medication had a Dutch biscuit and drink checked Trip Advisor for units in Ottawa (Bit expensive there). We decided to stay a couple of nights at Algonquin Park then go onto Ottawa.
