Spending the day with Marg

Brampton, Ontario, Canada
Marg and I both woke up at around 6.00am I gave her a big hug and made coffee, which we drank while watching the morning news, weather and road updates. Sleepy head Richard even woke early this morning so he got a cup of coffee in bed while he watched TV in there.

We had our showers and it was time for the morning nurse to give Marg her medications (she is a walking chemist like what Mum used to be but Mum had all her marbles and could take her own pills. The nurse got her ready for the day and I did a load of washing so we would be right for another week or so with clothes.

I caught up with all my computer work, Skyped Lindy and left a video message then a minute later she Skyped and we had a lovely conversation told her all about our adventures in Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-lake. Marg loves seeing Lindy on the laptop and with her new hearing aids she can hear what Lindy is saying. Discussed with Lindy the three different options of going to Ottawa other going back to Niagara Falls to Buffalo through the USA on Hwy 90, then Hwy 81 over Thousand Island to Canada onto the busy Hwy 401 to Ottawa. Orlando said Hwy 401 is a nightmare to travel on between Toronto and Ottawa, which Linda agrees with and there is no view, so we will take Bob's advice and go the scenic way up through Algonquin Provincial Park. Lindy agrees as they once owned a cabin up that way it might take a little longer but it will be a lot less stressful driving for Richard. Lindy told us to stay at Oxtongue Lake for a couple of days to see the area and Algonquin Park (lots of lakes and beautiful scenery).

Thought I had better start looking for places to stay I rang Parkway Cottage Resort in Oxtongue Lake which sounded good on Trip Advisor was a good price but they didn't have WIFI and then the laptop decided to be very unkind and not work properly. I couldn't get on Explorer to search, Skype disappeared and Richard couldn't download Bodhi (Aust Stock Exchange) to do his shares and charting. On again trying to get Ben Prins messages on phones and emails. When we went down to Sonya's Convenience Shop for milk and biscuits I had Reception also leave a message for me. Sonya wanted to know about Niagara so I gave her an update and said we were leaving tomorrow for Ottawa and Marg wouldn't be a happy lady. It is sad saying goodbye to someone for probably the last time as the next time they may not remember you. Marg has a very good long term memory but her short term is shot to pieces we get told the same thing repeatedly.

In between Marg's cat naps we looked at photos, talked of things we had done together, about Stew and her wanting to go home to her Condo in Church Street. Time for lunch Marg went over to Faith Manor to the Dining Room for her hot dinner and we had our coffee and sandwiches. Ben Prins left an email and finally came after lunch and fixed the laptop. Cost another $30 but at least I have it working and he downloaded a repair program for me to use if the same problem happened again, which I hope won't happen.   Brampton seems to jinks us everything goes wrong when we stay with Marg.

While Marg had her afternoon nap I started searching for accommodations around Algonquin Park this was proving difficult and expensive on either side of the park. Lindy Skyped again with some suggestions but even they were expensive. Richard and I were having second thoughts of which way to go to Ottawa the stressful Hwy 401 or USA discussed these with Lindy and Bob suggested going on the 407 to hook up at Whitby onto the 401 and staying at Kingston on the way to Ottawa. We are getting stressed. I went to see Willy and Peter across the corridor with my map of Canada they have done the three different ways to Ottawa and convinced me to go the scenic way through Algonquin Park. Hang the expense and enjoy yourself as we won't be back to see it again.

So I jumped back on the laptop and went cross eyed looking for accommodations sent a lot of emails and waiting for replies. We were going to go to Toronto today by train to view Toronto from the CN Tower and ferry over to Toronto Island Park, see Centreville and St Lawrence Park but the weather changed to overcast and started raining. Richard thought it best we stay with
Marg as it is our last day with her. Saw Willy in the hallway and asked her to have a look at Marg's hearing aids as her right one is whistling loud and Marg keeps on playing with it. Willy and Peter took her to get a new hearing aid and repair the other one so Willy told her how to put it in and the loud whistling means the battery is working. Now we know how to put it in and when in properly it doesn't whistle Marg can hear and we don't have to shout any more.

The afternoon nurse comes with Marg's medication and we decide for dinner we would have Chinese. Marg wanted to get takeaway from the Mandarin when Linda called to say goodbye plus see how we went with getting cabins told you I had narrowed it down to two. Either stay in Dwight for two nights before Algonquin Park and two night in Barry's Bay before heading to Ottawa.   I wanted to have all the towns (Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec) booked before crossing the Lawrence River into New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Not having much luck.

Linda gave me the name of a good Chinese Restaurant she uses when staying with her Mum but I had to ring Sharon (who rents Marg's condo) for the number. Linda said she probably won't answer the phone when she sees Marg's number as Marg continually rings her. Left a message and Sharon got back to me with the number.

Ordered far too much took over an hour for the food to be delivered but boy was it good far better than our Chinese Restaurants not drowned in sauce that tastes nearly the same and you get Fortune Cookies too.

Stayed up too late talking and checking my emails. Time for bed will do the bookings tomorrow morning.
